How can I tell if a TOB is good or bad?

I just got my twin disc setup back from PTT unrepaired. However, it looks like they cleaned up the TOB and repacked it. Is there a sure fire way to verify that it is good without calling them and asking? I don't want to get into why I don't want to call them here, I just don't want to talk to them. I know that new TOB are only about $20 (I am reading it is like $38 bucks). I am just asking a technical question now.

just a thought, if its cheap why not put it a new one in?

To answer your question, put it in your hands, put pressure against it and spin it back and forth. It should be smooth and not notchy. Thats not a tell all, but its a start..

I imagine ptt knows enough to determine if a tob is bad, if they didn't mention it I'm sure thats word enough to know its fine.

However you can't really tell a whole lot about a tob unless it junk. As long as there is still some effort required ttt turn it(but smooth), and its not marred, or doesn't have any signs of excessive wear I'd go with it

However, its $ vs labor time. Comes down to preference. If you had no issues, and don't have a ton of mile on go with it. I've install new, defective parts.

If your transmission is out and you are replacing your clutch the TOB is always bad... get what im saying, for 38 bucks why would you chance it? Ive always replaced the TOB, its cheep insurance to your clutch instal.

Thanks all, as I mentioned this is strictly a technical question. I have a brand new TOB installed. I just want to see if they fixed it.
