how can i tell if a 92 is a 6 bolt or not

I have been looking into buying a 1g dsm turbo awd for quite a long time now. I have been looking at a few 92 dsms turbo awd. The only problem is i can not tell if they are 6 bolt or 7 bolt. I know the early model 92s are 6 bolts, but how do i know if they are early model or not? The latest one i have been looking at is a laser rs awd.

Besides small body styling differences, what are the differences between all 3 of the 1 g dsm models? Sorry for the newb questions.

as for 6 or 7 bolt, the oil pan will be different. 6 bolt the oil pan bulges out and a 7 bolt the oil pan flairs inwards. i may have these backwards. check out vfaq.com for some more info. also the 92 AWD came with a 4 bolt rear diff, which is stronger than the 3 bolt designs used on the other AWD models.

same boat as u buddy, bought my 92 gsx under the impression it was a 6-bolt and later found out not all 92s were 6-bolts. Checked the manufacturing date, it was febuary

check the date on the inside of the car door on the driver side. I think they changed to 7-bolts in march, but i cant be sure.

By the way 1g 7-bolts are not the same thing as 2g 7-bolts, so if u find a really nice deal that u dont want to pass up on a 92 then dont the fact that its a 7-bolt make u change ur mind. 1g 7-bolts are not as bad as 2gs. But of coure the 92s have the 4 bolt rear end which is probably why ur interested in that year anyways .

Look inside the driver door at the vehicle info tag. It will have a production date listed amongst all the othe info. Usually, anything produced on or before 04/01-1992 will have a 6 bolt engine. Usually, anything built after then will have a 7 bolt engine.

Most 92s are in fact 6 bolts. If they were made in late '92, they were probably the 93 model year

I'm not up on the specifics and i could be completely wrong, but i was under the impression that the 1g 7-bolt and the 2g 7-bolt, are really different motors. I heard the 1g 7 bolts aren't as prone to crankwalking like 2gs are, but i'm not sure so don't quote me there.

all motors can crank walk. Ours are no different. The order of complaints of crankwalk are as follows. 2g turbo, 1g 7 bolt, 1g 6 bolt.
