Both of my headlight on my 1g dont flip up or down. Sometimes one of them works sometimes it doesnt and the one doesnt flip at all. I have a 1990 gsx and i was wondering if I have to replace the motors? If i have to replace them, does anyone have a guide on how to do it. thanks

Mine did this when I first got it. The motors are probably fine but the hinges may be rusted up or the connections may be corroded. What I did was tear it all apart and spray some PB blaster on the hinges. Its pretty straight forward. Just disconnect the linkages for the motors and and work the light up and down by hand to free them up. Check the electrical connections for any signs of corrosion and clean the terminals if they are dirty.

I always have problems busting the plastic clips on the end of the rods that connect the headlight to the motor(mainly due to my front end being mangled under the sheetmetal, plastic, and zip ties) so if your planning on tearing out to clean and lube, I would suggest replacing the clips with some new ones-the plastic being 17 years old and brittle by now. Proably goeing to break shortly after re-instalation if not during removal. Just my 2 cents from my experiences.

First check that the plastic pieces that connect the head lights to the motors are connected. Have someone turn on the lights as you watch the motors. (they are behide the lights under the hood against the wheel wheel side of the light.) If you hear the motors and see the arms move then chances are just the little piece of plastic is either broken or just disconnected.

Next check, disconnect these arms from the motor by prying them off. If you can pry them off evenly you might be able to keep them from breaking. If they do break a bit don't worry they usually will still work fine. Now witht he arms disconnected see if it's easy to lift the lights by hand. It should be smooth and pretty easy to lift the lights. If you can't lift them or they are hard to lift then your problem is easy to fix. All you have to do is pull the lights out. To do that you will need a 10mm socket for your ratchet. At the top part of the light where the short black seals are for the hood you should see two bolts I believe. Remove these. There will be two or three on the back side of the light as well. After removing the bolts lift the light out. The wiring connections will be straped in and will need to be unhooked. Once the lights are out, spray with a penertrating lubercant. Let is sit for a bit and spray again. What I did for mine was leave then over might and then worked them by hand through the motions and then used motor oil to lubercate them. Reinstall the lights and they should work fine.

If when you disconnected the arms the lights were easy to lift. Have someone turn the lights on again and see if the motors turn without anything connected to them. If they don't then there could be a wiring, fuse, relay or problem with the motors.
