All people seem to have mixed reviews on these...Some people say theyre cheap and they don't work well, but it seems alot of people use them...Anyone have an opinion...Are they pieces or do they get the job done... Examples...EGT, A/F, BOOST or any others

I have an Autometer boost gauge and A/F guage and soon to be EGT gauge. They are the only guages I have ever used and never had a problem with them.

I currently have the Autometer EGT gauge, I have no idea how accurate the thing is but it does its job quite well. When it comes to the EGT gauge people cannot agree on exactly what temp you should be running so being accurate to 1 degree is unnecessary. It dosn't have all of the bells and whistles that the Apex'i setup has but it also dosn't have the insanely high price. The EGT will mostly be used to give you an idea of what is goin on, whether you are runnin to lean or too rich and if you are in danger of blowing your motor. I personally tapped my probe on the #1 runner on the exhaust manifold and can tell when my car is running too lean. Location is everything, temperatures will drop if you probe after the turbo. In my case I know that if I see anything around 1550 then it is time to let off because I am running too lean, I have verified this with logs, you will need to find out where your temp lies.

I had an autometer boost gauge for ~9 months. I reciently replaced it with a greddy. WOW - the greddy is not only faster by far, it is accurate. Turns out, I was running 2 more lbs than I thought I was. OMG I would never go back to autometer. Some people swear by them, but I would go with defi, apexi, or greddy. Spend the extra $$ - you'll be happy with it - I SWEAR.

I have the Autometer Phantom Boost, A/F, and EGT. I love all of them, the look is what I was looking for, I like the fact that I was able to match all three, also the boost and EGT I was able to wire into my head light dimmer so they dim with my dash lights.

As for performance they work great, I have never had any problems minus one...

On the boost gauge where the boost line goes into the back, the small brass fittings, I kept getting a kink in the boost line causing errenous readings.

The bottom line though is a lot of people use the autometer, they are an excellent product. Is it worth the extra money to you for what you are looking for?

Good luck!

Same here.

Those defi's were the ones I wanted in the beginning but I couldn't afford them and decided on autometer (that and the defi's were out of stock everywhere).

I had autometer as well never had problems with them. The only thing I can say is check them on the shelf before you buy look at where the needle is setting in when its in the box I noticed a few of them were off by a little, some by alot. One was just sitting at 5 psi instead of 0.

I dont know if this has more to do with build quality or crap shipping where boxes are thrown around and what not.

I have Autometer in all of my cars and love them to death. I have heard from some people that they got a boost gauge and it was off a bit, but when you are making 5000 boost gauges a day one or two will be messed up. Its part of business. Every store I have bought them from has always just taklen the gauge back with no questions and given me a brand new one.

They have been making gauges before most of us were born and if a majority of Pro drivers use them I think they will work for me.

I had 3 Autometer Gauges in my car, Boost, Air/Fuel and oil pressure. The gauges worked fine, I had no problems with them. Recently I switched to the EL2 APEXi gauges and I must say that they own autometer. Easier to read, not as UGLY at night. If you are just wanting gauges for the sole purpose of monitoring stuff, then Autometer is your best choice. If you are like me, and care how they look and light up at night, then APEXi or Defi or the other choices are the route to go.

I run Autometer Cobalt EGT/Boost/AF ratio and they are fine. My only gripe is I put them in a triple-pod on the driver's side A-pillar and they really mess with my visibility at night. I'll go to probably one in the A-pillar and the other two in the dash.

they are the best bang for the buck, Yes, hks and blitz ones looks way better and icier, but they cost 4x as much

If I drove a Ferrari, I would get Defi gauges.

For my piece of shit Mitsubishi, Autometer works great. :thumb:
