hmm to lazy to rent, too cheep to buy (50 clams) im gonna do it with my mechanic/friend... ou you will get your updates... i supose i will test each seting meaby, it will probly be all snowy round heer by then... i wish i had a race trak underground or something.. LOL

I went with the KYB AGX + Skunk2 Coilovers. Sorry can't comment on how they handle because I haven't installed them yet. ;)

i have olawsed wonderd how the coil over "screw" sits properly on the spring perch? the perch is curved to hold the spring... how is it stable?

OK guys! I just got the scoop on the KYB AGX shocks and lowering your Eclipse! They told me that if you run your "stock" springs with there front shocks then you will have no problem with the setup. The problem is only with the fronts when you lower it with aftermarket springs. The back shocks are not a problem and will work with any spring setup, the right p/n for them is: 741019. If you lower your car using aftermarket springs, like me, then you need the "NEW" p/n which is: 741042. They just made this change in Aug. 2002, so look at your p/n if you bought them to use with lowering springs and make sure you have 741042 for the front! I didn't, I bought mine a long time ago and now I need to buy new ones. They indeed are an 1" to long, which is probably why my front has so much wheel gap! I hope this helps everyone out. So my setup will no be:

741042 - Front shocks
741019 - Rear shocks
Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs.

p.s. - Here is the e-mail I got!

741018 was the old number,
741042 is the new number, with the correct body length.

741018 will work with stock size springs only on the Eclipse.
Yes the 741018 fits the Galant.
741018 are not defective shocks. If you bought them after August '02 you
should of gotten the part number 741042.
If you bought them before then the part store should of told you that they
will only work with stock size springs.

Ahhhhh... just what the DSM doctor ordered. Thanks for the great info!!!!

man this needs to get out to everyone cause i have seen a lot of posts where kyb has been raed on cause of this problem.... but they are a good inexpensive shock and they do work, now at least

Yeah I know, I told the guy at KYB, they needed to tell there vendors, beacuse a lot of websites still list the bad p/n as the right on for the eclipse, and if you use different spring, it won't work. I hope our fellow DSM Tuners see this and spread the word! They are a nice shock, I like the ride quality!

I recently bought the agx with the ground contols. They have not corrected the issue with being +1 inch over stock struts. This really does effect the ride when dropping over 2 inches (it sucks bad). If I was looking at doing it over, I would recommend saving for the Tien SS or Flex. It sounds like a lot of money, but the agx/GC was almost $750 anyways. For a couple hundred bucks more it's worth it.

Just some thoughts by someone that's been there :)

Too bad about the lowering.... I hope they sold you the right part on your shocks. If you look above at my previous e-mail I listed the right part number. The problem in the aftermarket world is no one really knows too much about this part number change. When I went and got my new shocks, I told the company, and it was Summit Racing which is huge, and they had no idea either. I told the guy my story and told him to go to the KYB site and you can now see the new part number. I got my new shocks mounted, but I still have to put them on. I measured them against the old and the top collar is about 1" higher on the old ones. So they have made a serious change to the shock, I don't know if it does correct the problem or not, I won't know till I put them on. Hopefully after Christmas. I will let everyone know and take pics!

Hey, i have KYB AGX struts for a 1G DSM and matrix coilovers...only thing i was worried about, was if i get 215/35/18 tires on 18 inch rims if the tires will rub the spring basket for the front AGX's, the rear spring retainers slid right off and i dont have a problem with them,, but the front might be a problem. i only plan on lowering the car maybe 2 - 2 1/2 inches. has anyone ever run this setup before? do you think ill have any problems?

thanx
-Mike
