Okay, so my clutch has been slipping randomly here and there  and I have been saving up a little cash to buy a new one. So randomly today, driving along at about 65 on the highway, I hear a big boom WTF and look under the hood. What do I find? theres about an 8 inch gash in the top of my bellhousing OMG . So my guess is that either the clutch, flywheel, or pressure plate broke and sent something flying through the bellhousing. Uhmmm...Is this a semi-common occurrence on our cars? I mean, I know they sell scatter sheilds and stuff, but I'm bone stock. Didn't think this kinda crap just randomly happens....

You guys think its more likely that its the clutch or the flywheel that broke or what? Does the bellhousing seperate or do I need a whole new trans?? It's been quite a while since I've had an FWD turbo trans apart....

Why does something always happen to my tranny????

###### the little dowel pin was not put back in when whoever owned it before you did a clutch job or took the tranny down...if they are not put back in, the tranny does not align correctly with the motor causing it to shift back and forth when you drive it...meaning you ###### shifted hard and it broke.

ok so just dropped the trans....turns out the pressure plate kinda exploded....Well, at least the friction surface that touches the clutchplate. I'll post pics soon.....

The bellhousing does indeed seperate from the tranny. You can probably just get the bellhousing welded rather than buying a new one if the crack is not to bad. Pics will let us know for sure.

nope....no welding here. she's done. thx for the info, I actually called Jon up at TRE and he gave me the part number for the 2g FWD bellhousing. Like I said, I've taken them apart before, but its just been a while. It's all coming back to me now though...stuff like making sure not to break the damn speedo sensor :p. Anyways, I brought the trans and pressure plate home w/ me, so I'll take pics sometime this weekend and post them up.
