In our 5 speed with a smaller than factory shift knob it seems our hand
keeps hitting the faceplate of the radio when shifting.
It is an aftermarket radio.

I am thinking of sinking the sleeve of the stereo deeper into the console to give more room.

Other than doing that I am stumped on how to give more clearance so we
can stop running into the radio with our hand when shifting.

Does anyone else have this problem ??

Adjusting sounds easier as a first try.
I presume it is done under the hood where the linkage connects.

Anything to watch out for as far as problems when doing this ?
Simply loosen the lock nuts and twist to shorten cables ?

Or is there more to it than that.

look on the side of your head unit(hu) there should be holes lake of two interior side pannels in center one driver one passenger side you will see a lot of holes slide your radio back into two that work for you or drill new ones note this means the cage for the hu is no longer needed

Take the shift lever out and cut it down and weld it back together. Here's mine.

there are holes in the metal dash bracket I guess you'd call it line your radio up insert screw it will hold your radio up if need be drill new holes in dash frame

Hmm it seems your shift 'throw' is a bit much and therefore you're beating up the innocent little radio. If only the radio knew it wasn't on purpose...

SO anyway, the 'throw' is too much. Maybe this can be toned down a bit... 'Shortened' if you will. Well good news... they call it the 'short throw shifter' and it just came out last week, so quit abusing your knob!

(I prefer the MiragePerformance one, and slightly modifiy it)
