hey i'm planning on getting some work done here in the near future. there is a dsm shop in clearwater, fl that i'm getting it done at. the tech there told me that the best bang for the buck route to go(without NOS) is a high performance head job. port and polish, cams, valve springs and retainers, and a bunch of shit i dont remember. he told me that i would stay reliable and with intake and exhaust to free up some of the flow, i should be pushing approx. 50hp more to the wheels. does this sound accurate? i dont really want to spend that much and i wanna get a little more pep to my 420a and stay reliable. from what he told me this would be the best route to go. anyone have any input on this? any experience with this kind of setup?

Ah I seriously doubt you would see 50ph out of a built head. You might see 15-20 but thats about it. You need to kill the intake and exhaust restrictions to even make the new head worth the money as you are still restricted by how much air can easily move through the intake manny and out the exhaust end.

He is right. You will be lucky to net 25hp out of the deal. For the money definatly not worth it. There isn't really any big way to make power on a N/A motor. If you decided to raise the compression a bit then I could see doing some head work. Maybe try for getting your crank knife edged and lightening your rotating assembly. Other than nitrous there aren't a whole lot of ways to make big power with a low compression 4 cylinder motor.

you all might be right...but i want to know if anyone has had any experience...i really trust the tech's word. and i know a lot of people on here don't really have faith in the 420a but you would be suprised and what some peeps have pumped out of those things and still remained reliable. i am a 4g63t fan, too, but i have to keep my 2GNT. i want to give it a little more pep. so can someone give me an unbiased opinion(or fact)?
