My friend just bought a turbo kit off of ebay for his g/f's 95 talon tsi awd. It has an intercooler, t04e 57-trim, bov, etc.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...=R40&satitle=8057434143&fvi=1&item=8057434143

What else would he need? I told him that the fuel system would probably need to be upgraded and Maybe some sort of engine management system.

My friends g/f already bought the system.

Next question is with everything being stock is this turbo way to big?

Thanks

Ahhh the lust of buying a big turbo and having nothing to support it. I would do what everyone SHOULD do and SEARCH. You need supporting mods or your friends girl friend will be one of the lame ass people who contribute the the DSM are unreliable problems we have. I would start here.

http://www.dsmtuner.com/tuning-guide/2gturbo/

EDIT: Actualy before you do anything I would make sure that the car is in good runing order and has ALL maintenance done before you even think about modding it.

Does your friend know what he's doing? If he does, he should know what he got himself into. If not, there are some issues. Just some things off the top of my head:

Yes, you will need to upgrade fuel. Yes you will need something to tune with and guages to see wtf is going on. You will also need a manifold that works with that t04ness, IC pipes, a flange for the bov, a recirc option for the bov depending on what types of management you choose to run, exhaust modifications. From what I see, good luck with the IC pipes. The turbo outlet faces your motor.

If the car is pretty stock, this setup is pretty useless. You can use the bov (not even, if there's no flange) thats about it. If you get a boost guage you can use the mbc too.

A good rule of thumb is to ask before buying.

Good luck.

well along with that kit i would save up money to replace everything that kit comes with, and most of the parts in your motor

is it me or does that kit seam real cheap for everything is has?

For that price i would be real worried with quality but hey thats me

please make sur eyou have the correct suporting mods, I would hate to see a post about why the car blew up.

thanks for the replys, after i started reading into how big that turbo is for these motors i kinda expected that. He's not really sure what he's getting into but like he said if its not going to work for her car they can just throw it back on ebay.

What exactly would they need.

What would be a better sized upgrade. (I figured 300ish woud be a great number for her). She's wanting to beat her brothers new EVO.

I would be doing everything for them probably. She wanted to buy everything and do it all at once. Like my name kind of implys i have worked with mustangs so this is going to be a little different, but im sure i can handle it.

I agree with all that has been previously said.

Hopefully everything in the kit will hold up, remember that you pay for what you get.

There is a reason that the well known shops are selling top notch turbos and intercooler kits for $1000 or more.

Boost, you tickled my hot spot there. I HATE how people assume DSMs are unreliable just because they hear the 1 out of 20 stories of a person who bumped their boost up to 25 psi on an otherwise stock car. Or the dumbass who didn't do his/her timing belt at the appropriate time. My two mitsus have been very reliable cars. The only problems I have had with 1 of them are the water belt ( which, had I known anything about these cars, would have been fixed) and the spark plug wires. Anyways, back on topic....

We're not saying this turbo is "too big." What we're saying is that there is alot more work involved than this kit that your friend bought. As for the quality of this kit, those who have not tried it should not assume anything. There is a car going around with an ebay kit putting down good power: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=212936

However, if you decide to go with very reputable parts, you will be paying alot more. IMO, this kit is a damn good price and you won't be losing that much if any of it fails. Nobody sells a complete kit to get to 300hp, so that's not something you should look for. You have a couple big parts here and you should work up to them.

If you decide to start on supporting mods and work up to these parts (which I suggest), you will be around here alot. Welcome to the community. Please fill out your vehicle profile so we can help you more.
