i have a 420a non turbo that when it is runing it will studder when i try to take off and the rpms spike down and the car wants to die any info would help thanks

What about... revs? Will it rev smoothly? Or does it sound choppy or studder when you try to rev it? does it blow smoke out of the exhaust? Leak Oil?

Do a compression check, anything below 170... you have some issues. Also do a Fuel Pressure Check... Check or replace your spark plugs. Air Filter... Is it throwing any codes?

It can be any number of things. Engines have to have 3 main things, Fuel, Air, Spark! On top of that they need Compression, specific ammounts of air and fuel in a mixture... so you can check soo many things. First thing, I say take it to autozone... they will check your OBD2 for free... see if the car is throwing a code.

If the car isn't, next, check the air filter... Next, pull the spark plugs... if they are good... while you have them off, do a compression check. If the numbers are good... check the fuel pressure. I dont know what its supposed to be at, but you can find out easily by Searching. Uhm... Next... Shit I dont know what else to say... Those are the basics... And should lead you onto the path that you need to go to fix your car.

Goodluck!

A little better description of the problem would be beneficial for us to help you narrow it down. As Josh already mentioned, there are many things that can cause an engine to "studder".

FP should be 47-50psi, with very little hysteresis when opening and closing the throttle.
