50 trim.

Have you looked into a MHI evo3 16g? It costs less than the 50trim, supports 350-400hp and doesnt have much lag. $550 new at extremepsi.com

Actually 50 trims are pretty cheap and way more effecient on pump gas. You got yourself a nice motor and you wont have to worry about spool. That bullseye turbo will not hit your hp goal, I would go with a 60-1 with a stage 5 turbine wheel over the stage 3. Little slower in spool but a lot more top end. Precision turbos are nice and have stock exhaust housing so it will bolt right up.

DO NOT go with the v-trim. As far as power goes it's similar to the big 16g but with a lot slower spool up. It's worthless. I would say the 50 trim. Great dd turbo with good spool up characteristics and supports up to 450hp. And one can be had for $700 bucks. I've heard good things about slowboys SBR-G50.

My vote is 50+ trim or larger. The stroker will love this turbo. The Evo 16G is a great turbo.. but It will take alot of effort to get 400hp from it and you will be running non-pump gas most likely to reach that and alot less effort to get 400 hp from the 50 trim. Also the stroker, will spool it in a "decent" amount of time.

My oppinion of course.

You're going to want a 50 trim minimum, the 2.4 will have even that spooled yesterday. A 16g will spool annoyingly fast and run out of breath I think, no sense working a little turbo like that to death. I'd personally stick with FP if you can afford it and PTE otherwise.

I'm pretty sure that the S256 is a Borg Warner turbo, not Bullseye.

As far as 350-400hp, get a little 50-trim and you should get that easily with pump gas. /thread

Semantics. If you want to be a purist, there are only a few different "brands" of turbos - no such thing as an FP or SB or any other middleman vendor that offers their own touch to make the turbos adaptable to our cars.

I'll have to look it up, but I'm almost positive that all Bullseye did for the BW S256 is make an exhaust housing to make it "bolt-on" for DSM. They didn't make the actual turbo. I also believe that FP does make some of their own turbos as well as modify other brand's turbos.

Well, it depends on what you mean by "make". They might piece together parts made by Mitsubishi and Garrett, but I don't think they actually have designed any significant parts of the turbo. That isn't to say that their contribution isn't significant - they had to figure out which combinations make the right power for a 2.0-2.4L engine, but to say any middleman "makes" turbos is probably pushing it a bit.

Also even though everyone uses the term, a "50 trim" isn't a turbo and one could find any number of poorly chosen turbos that have a 0.5 area ratio between the inducer and exducer. By the same token, you can find some that are much better than the typically cited "50 trims". For example, the turbo I recommended is actually a 50 trim.

I'm not busting your chops, just pointing out that there is often more than one way to be technically accurate and not really any point in pointing it out when the meaning is already understood.

i was only looking at the bulleye because a guy locally was selling it. he told me this""The T04B V-trim turbo's are rated at 700cfm's and 48 lbs/min, so why get a 16g that only pushes 38 lbs/min or a 20g (44 lbs/min) when you can get this turbo."" i think he said it was rated at 480whp.so i need a 50trim can i get one any cheaper then $800? because i just spent hella money on a cosmetic gasket and apr head studs and je rings and piston, act clutch and fly wheel now im looking at getting eagle rods.ps im putting the motor together now i have a friend selling a 20g for $600 should i just jump on that it used tho about 500 miles or so

Go larger than a 50 trim. You wont have an issue spooling it. The 60-1 would be a lot more fun. With the motor you built 400-500whp should be no problem. A 50 trim is not much better than a 16g. With that motor dont be scared of getting something a little slower spooling.

You should give us your whole fuel setup that you plan on buying. Also what is your spending limit on a turbo. A 20g can make good power but its old technology and expensive, a lot better turbo can be bought around the same price.

My next turbo may be one of those 60-1's. They make some great power on e85 and the stage 5 wheel makes good power even in the mitsubishi exhaust housing.

i thought i sould pick a turbo first then feul set up to match and cover all its needs

Fuel is related to HP goal.... with boost pressure factoring in as you increase pressure, the fuel pumps become less efficient.

I would set your HP goal, times that number by 15% for safety reasons and then try to develop a fuel system that can meet that number. I.e 450 hp * 1.15 = 517.5 hp [note: I am referring to crank HP, not whee hp]
