Bought a 97few eclipse in parts. Put it all back together and it wont start. Its getting fuel and spark so decided to do a compression test. Little to no compression across all cylinders. So did a leak down test with cylinder 1 at tdc air is leaking to cylinder 3. Turn engine a little bit its leaking to cylinder 2 and 3. Any ideas as to what might be going on. Im thinking timing might be off slightly or something. With cylinder 1 at tdc the cam timing marks line up perfectly, didnt take the timing cover all the way off and check the timing marks on the crank. Not sure if issue is timing or pistons/rings. Any help would be awesome.
 
Did you put the head gasket the right way? Did you tighten the headbolts all the way? Is there any coolant or oil leaks into the cylinder? is the head warpped? Did you tighten the spark plugs?

If you would get the timing wrong to the point where all the valve stay open on the compression stroke, you will bend the valve. If the timing is wrong you should still have some sort of compression. I dont think its the timing.

Also make sure you doing everything the right way (nothing against your mechanic skills). When you do a leak down test double check that the piston is in the top dead center. If it is and there is problem with the timing you would most likely have a leak through the valve, check the intake ports and exhaust ports. If there is a problem with the rings, you will feel the air coming out of the dipstick. If its the headgasket you will feel air going to other cylinders or mixing with the coolant/oil.

Also make sure that the compression tester is good and there is no leaks and damaged threads anywhere.
 
i should state that the motor was all together. i know the compression tester is good. and the piston was def at tdc. air is going to other cylinders. when i tried to start the car there was no weird noises like valves hitting or the sound of a broker piston or anything like that. just didnt sound like it had compression.
 
take out the park plug and put round paper balls in there, if they fly out you have decent enough compression to start the car.
