I have an oil leak that to me is very strange. It is around where the oil filter is and is not the oil pan since i just replaced that about 2,000 miles ago. There is always oil on the filter, all around it, to the left of the filter that whole housing has oil on it, next to the belts but down by that housing has oil on it, but not on the belts or anything like that. I have taken some pictures to try and help show what i am talking about. I would appreciate any help! It is a 90 GSX, with a little over 62,000 original miles, last compression was at 161 across the board. I know the filter is tight because every time i am down there i make sure and it has never been loose. There is also what looks to be like leaking oil from the oil return line at the spot where it enters the oil pan, but it was torqued down to spec with new gasket and permatex, anyone know why that would be happening. I will try and post the pictures here. Thanx for all the help!

Buck, thanks for the advice, but when i did the oil pan agasket i used the same stock bolts that came off to put the return line back on, should i get new bolts or should i have done something diffrent, because it is leaking from their to, is there a special way to do these bolts?? Crankbender, how would i go about checking my front seals?? Thanx guys for the help, i have time today so i want to see if i can get this thing over with!

^ Be sure that the leak is not actually farther up the Return Line - very common for them to crack & leak when they get hot - I actually stripped out the 10MM Stock Return Line to Oil Line Fasteners & had to tap the Pan oversize to American 1/4-20 - Then used a Copper Eye off an Electrical Lug for a Crush Washer - NO LEAK.

Also for the altenator, does the belt come off easy, and any tips for taking it out, since there is oil up there so i should check it out, thanx!

Make sure you have NO Power Steering Fluid leaks dripping on your Alt - that will kill the Voltage Regulator in a Heartbeat & can toast your ECU... If you haven't replace EVERY O Ring on your PS Pump you need to NOW.

I put it on Car Ramps & come from underneath so no need to remove Fan - It's still a PITA...

- I had my Bumper to Bumper guy look up the Highest Amp Mitsu Alternator that would fit a 1G:

- Max amperage 121 amps

- 100 amps at 3000rpm

- Max 1548 watts

- Manufacturer Ampere - Ampere P/N 21491

- Cost was about $150.00

- I run a 1 Farad Cap too with an El-Cheapo Battery that pushes a 500 Watt Sony Amp & head Unit no problems - no dimming, etc.

once you remove the tensioner the belt should slide right off

Yeah i checked the power steering lines to make sure there was nothing leaking and their wast, but i amtrying to get rid of this oil leak, so by taking off the altenator will i have a clear view of the front seals,, if you check out my posts before there is oil collecting on the bottom of that 90 degree bend of the coolant pipe from the block, and so i think the leak is around there somewhere.

Basically this is what i am thinking let me now if i am way off base. I am going to take out the altenator, and need to move the power steering pump over like you would do to remove the 2g manifold, so by doing this or both, it will make it very clear to see what is leaking because it is on that right side of the motor and when it was on stands and at idle since i was by myself no oil was leaking, so either it is leaking when driving, or leaking from a spot i can't see, so i need to nip this.

If your Front Case gasket is leaking on that side you should see it after pulling the PSP and Alt. If its the Crank Shaft Seal you won't be able to see it w/o taking off the Timing Covers. That water return pipe is higher than half of your Front Case if memory serves me right. Sounds like you may have a leak at the corner of your Valve cover or maybe the camshaft seal and its traveling around the front side. Can't think of anything else that high that would be putting stuff on that pipe. You may want to run some die through it to find the exact points of leakage. The stuff I'm going to try this w/e is made by Tracerline. Go to their website and see if theres a supplier near you.

i know the valve cover is good, is there a way to take the timing cover off without messing with any belts? If i can do that, would i be able to run the car with the covers off to see what is leaking, i have never messed witht hat so it maybe a stupuid question but it is worth asking!
