Hey I'm a first-time poster and I've just turned 18. I'm driving a '97 Eclipse GS I bought last summer in good condition and I've got about $2000 to put into it right now. Any ideas where to start?

Also, I know from reading a bunch of the other posts I should be mod'ing other things first before putting a turbo into my car, what would be the best place to start? I plan on putting upwards of $3500 into my car by the end of the summer, with that kind of budget what are my options, and what do you think would be an option for a good start-up kit for a turbo unit?

This is the first car I'm mod'ing with some outside help and I figured you guys would know best.

First off, welcome and congrats on the purchase. Start searching around in the non-turbo performance forums for good ideas on how to extract all the power possible out of the 420A before adding a turbo kit.

On the contrary my fellow dsmer, he should turbo it before anythin else :p , get a 4g63t swap so you can have a solid foundation to start off on.

I agree, go turbo. Trust me, you will love your car when you hear that nice blow off salute going on. Its the biggest gains in HP you can get, it will get you a lot of respect converting a n/t to turbo, and it will open so many more doors for hp adds down the road. You can easly get into a turbo set up for that kind of cash.

Wow, I didn't realize that the full turbo kits for the N/A were completely within your price range. Right now you can afford the Star Stage I kit from what I can find and the Stage II kit from Star and Hahn are under what you plan to spend in the end. I'd talk to the guys with N/As and see which is better. Nothing sucks more than spending the money and wishing you would have waited to get the next higher upgrade.
