i have a 95 gsx and i need to get the parts to do the emergency brake. i know its behind the rear disc brakes. what i need to know is where can i get the parts to do it? any part numbers would be great. would you recommend replacing the rear disc rotor also?

Is the e-brake shoes shot or are you just doing some prevenative maintinace? The same rules apply as doing a rear drum brake job, if the drum is to big then it needs to be replaced, but since its just the e-brake then I doubt there is that much wear on it.

my ebrake just doenst work at all. i tightened the adjustment to max and it can barely slow the car down. its not that i use the ebrake ever but just incase my brake lines all blow out of some other freak of nature happens i wnat to be able to stop my car. how would i go about ordering my pads for it? when i go to the local car store they are going to bring up disc

ask them for e-brake parts not just rear brakes. Its pretty much impossible to loose all of your brakes and even if you do your e-brake wont help much. Have you looked at the shoes at all to see what condition they are in? They can be adjusted there also.

well you know what im saying, i may not loose all my brakes but if the ebrake was needed i woudl like to know its there. no i havent taken the wheels off yet to adjust them there. i didnt know about that. i plan on buying new rotors, i found brembo new in box drilled and slotted front and rear for 250 shipped so i probly will buy them and do the ebrake when they come in

I know what you are saying, but in all honesty the ebrake is pretty much worthless in a stop. Anyway before you replace everything check out the condition of the shoes. Like I said before if you ever have done a drum brake job then its the same thing

I have gotten stuck using only my ebrake to stop more than once. It's also handy if you have to slow down, because of an officer running radar. Not to mention the parking on hills thing. It's worth fixing if you've got the time and money.

How do you get stuck with only your ebrake? And I'm guessing you use your ebrake to slow down so your brake lights dont turn on?

Calipers blowing and dropping fluid, brake hoses blowing and doing the same...

And yes, no light. On Friday and Saturday nights they try to catch drunks on our local highway for ANYTHING suspicious. Obviously I try not to speed, but it's nice to be able to slow down a bit without arousing suspicion.

Yeah, no offense, but that's probably your e-brake wore away. I just brake until I'm almost past them, so they can't see the brake lights. I also put the car in neutral when I see the police so that the exhaust is a lot quieter. :D

I agree. Pull the ebrake apart and see what is worn out...unless you have cash burning a hole in your pocket that you can't spend on any other mod. "Replacing" the whole thing without knowing what is wrong doesn't sound like the wise solution.

My E-Brake never 'wore away.' I've had a couple freak incidents where normally static portions of my brakes gave way. There is no relation. I'm talking about pulling a mechanically activated brake when the hydraulic part is not functioning.

You really need to adjust the E-Brakes at the rotors. It is pretty simple. I was doing a complete rotor and brake job so it was convenient at the time but here are the basics.

I used brake cleaner and wiped my e-brake pads down and also the drums on the new rotors. Additionally, I expanded the brakes until I could not turn the rotor and then backed them off 1 or 2 clicks and the rotors weren't dragging.

Good luck
