Hello all. I wasn't sure where to post this. The 'ringed' part of my 2G GST dipstick has broken off and the thin plastic piece that slides in w/ the o-ring seals is still in there. It's broke off to where you can see the top of the metal dipstick. There's about a 1/4 inch at most sticking out of the plastic. Anyways, I tried using standard needle-nosed pliers to get it out, but the stick is just out of reach. I went by Autozone and they said they didn't have anything that could reach it. Has anyone had this happen to them before, and if so, how did you get it out? I went to the Mitsu dealer for a new dipstick and to see if one of the techs would help me get it out. Surprisingly, he came out to help me, but said he didn't know how to get it out after looking at it. Please help guys.

If you can see it, you can get it. You need some extra slim jaw needle nose pliers.

If that doesn't work, maybe you could pull out the dip-stick tube. I don't know hard it is to pull out on a 4g63 but I've seen one work itself out on its own on a 420a.

Yeah, I can see it. It's about two inches below the tube lip. I'll try to find some of those pliers. Thanks again. Anyone else got something?

looks like you need those long nosed pliers, thats the only thing i can think of too........
I would recommend however, that once you get the old one out, to buy a 1G dipstick(the metal one). They can be found cheap in junkyards if you dont want to buy a brand new one.

How about trying a hook and pick set. Not sure how deep you need to go but I know that sears has a regular size, and an extra long size. This is just for an example I know that all the autoparts stores have them.

Also the oil tube just comes off. Can't remember if there is a screw holding it on with a bracket, but it pulls right off. I have not pulled one off of a car with oil in it, so I do not know if oil will start spilling out until it gets below that point, but it might help you out if you get it off the block. Good Luck.

I used two thin, flathead screwdrivers that I got on both sides and pressed together...only because I didn't have a set of the thin needlenose pliers. But if you said it's 2 inches down there, I still am not certain that you will be able to open the pliers enough to grasp it. Besides that, you could just push it down in there more.

Take prplhz96 advice if you can't get it out, just take off the tube, it saves the aggravation.

Well, I wasn't able to find the slim pliers, but sitting under my nose the whole time were my wife's hemostats. You know, they're those scissor-like things that lock that you see surgeons use. I'm sure you can get them at any pharmacy. And so I easily slid them done the tube and out the dip stick came. :thumb: Of course, me being the retard I am, I didn't think to try tweezers either. So after a week or so of going everywhere, asking all the shops for help and almost putting the car in the shop I found the answer in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom. So for any of you that run into this problem or need to pull something out of a tight little tube, this might help you out. Thanks for everyone else's help.
