Help Transfercase empty of fluid

I have a 1995 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD

So I pulled the engine and when I drained the transfer case - it was empty!

I heard about a recall on 2g transfer cases , and that if my VIN had not had the recall done, Mitsu would do it.

But the recall has been done on this car, so what do I do?

Is this something I can fix myself to prevent future fluid loss?

If it has no fluid in it than it is junk and will need to be replaced.

So... About that.

The car drove just fine before I tore it apart. Other than a boost leak it seemed to turn, accelerate and clutch just fine...

So is it really still junk?

Yes, if there is no oil in it, than it is a paperweight at most. Get to looking for a replacement.

You could always fill it up and try to run it.. If it fails or starts whining then its junk. I dont see why you couldnt try that.. Hell I would. But if I were you I'd be looking for another t-case just in case.

I am wary to buy one from a junk yard car. and a couple sites online sell rebuilt ones for $600...

600 for a rebuilt transfer case is a pretty good price. There are plenty for sale in the classified section here, there is also miller import that sells used dsm parts. Gotta pay to play.

Yeah, but if it has been ran without fluid than there is internal damage and it will eventually lock up. You can use a damaged transfer case if you want, but recommending others to do it is silly, and i am sure not really appreciated on this forum.

You should definitely look into a new transfer case, if you lived closer to me I'd sell you one of the spare ones I've got haha

Look into fed ex or ups, you can use ground shipping if it's under 150lbs, over 150 is considered freight so a bit more pricey. I know it's under 150lbs but figured it's good info to know for future reference. You can do a free estimate online UPS not sure about fed ex. UPS was cheaper when I checked but I've heard others say fed ex was cheaper for them so...

Plenty of good used transfer cases out there. Keep a eye out for a good deal.
