Help set my mind at ease, rebuilt 420a w/ problems...

Ok, I just finished rebuilding my 420a, head was machined and resurfaced, put eagle hbeam rods, new rod bearings, wiseco 10.5:1 pistons, that is for internals. I know the timing is off by 1/2 a tooth on the cams, and 1/4 on the crankshaft, I took it to a mechanic today to have the timing set right. I went to my scond choice mechanic for time reasons and they said with out looking at anything it sounded like a blown head gasket or rod knocking?? They wouldnt even listen to me that all that had been replaced along with head bolts. So the brushed me off and I took it to my mechanic. The battery/car wont stay on long because the alternator isnt charging it, assuming from it being out of time. I dont believe its a rod knock, its not that loud, its more of a vibration which I think is the roll stop being loose or something else not being tight. It seemed to run good, except for not wanting to pick up quick which again is the timing. I know the idle is a little bumpy and rough but I believe thats also time. My question is could all this be from the timing or does it sound like a rod could be knocking?
 
The alternator not charging is probably not a problem with the timing. This is probably something that isn't hooked up right or isn't tight. I would go over all your connections to try and solve that problem. That being said the rest of your problems could all be timing related. I would take care of the timing first and see if that solves all the others. Good luck.
