Ive had a short throw shifter on the car for a while now, but i dont think its my problem.

ill be driving fine and dandy, and then ill be at a stop light, and when i try to put it into first, it simply wont go into gear, i have to turn off the car, put it in 1st, and then go. i thought that was pretty weird, but it drove fine for about a month and a half afterwards. Now, as of yesterday, the car does it all the time. if i try to put it in any other gear, it just makes grinding noises and such. the pedal is only halfway disengaged when the tires start to turn. but i have no idea. all signs point to a clutch, but i just want to be positive.

if it is the clutch. how much would it be to replace something like that? thanks alot!

Sounds like the throw out bearing to me. Its probably a worn clucth pressure plate and trow out bearing. Check to see if the tranny bolts are tight as well and you might try bleeding the clucth lines . A good clucth and pressure plate would cost somewhere in the 400 dollar range when said and done.

the fluid that im going to bleed out and replace tomorrow for the clutch was reallly really dirty, so hopefully after a flush and new fluid, i can be back in business.

There is also the possibility that the clutch isnt disengaging all the way because of a bad slave cylinder or master cylinder. Have someone step on the clutch and watch the slave cylinder and see how far it travels. When your helper has the pedal to the floor gently pry on the clutch arm and see if it moves any further. Also if either of these are bad you may not be able to get it to bleed when you flush it out. Hope this helps. Travis

i actually had this same problem twice and .....my first time it was due to my throw out bearing and a worn clutch.....fixed that and it ran great...unfortunately the second time for me it was due to a crack in my bell housing on the trans i had it welded up and the problem was fixed but in your case i would definately check the master and slave cylinders first because i had to replace both of them on my car as well.....after making sure those are both good try bleeding the clutch lines a few times to make sure all the air is out of the lines....if still no luck....you could always have the trans. pulled to see how the clutch and pressure plate are looking....good luck! :thumb:
