Ok so here is the problem, my friend just bought a 95 GS-T. It has a motor out of a 93' Talon Tsi, and is using the T25. I haven't had time to go help him with it, so he made this vid for me. It knocks pretty bad, but doesn't scale with the RPM's it produces. I will say that the previous owner really ####ed him over on this, vac lines are everywhere, and he has the BOV venting to atmosphere...

The car will not idle, and runs pug rich, but I'm sure that is because of this BOV situation which will be fixed promptly. I'll link him this and have him see your answers for himself when he gets time, but this is urgent so I posted it ahead of time for him. Thanks in advance guys!!!

YouTube - please help

Ok, thanks. I'll try and do that tommrow. Just to dark to see outside right now and my garage doesnt have very good lighting.

Doesn't look like a 1G engine to me because I don't see a 1G cam angle sensor on passenger side of the engine.

I think only few years 2G DSM's had CAS's but all 1G's did. It is located at the passenger side end of the intake camshaft. For the 2G's I don't know for sure.

pull your valve cover and check to make sure all your rockers are where they need to be.

That wont help any because that isnt the problem, if a rocker came loose then BAD stuff would happen, and it shouldnt even run if that happened. BTW there is some confusion, the "ECI multi" on the intake means its a 6-bolt, and sorry to say this but that sounds like a bad rod knock.

I don't think it would stop the car from running. It would just keep a valve from opening. It could make serious damage in the valvetrain though.

So my motor is a 6-bolt? But, even if it was rod knock...Wouldn't it do it throughout the RPM range? It doesn't happen at idle or anything like that. Only at/or around 3k-4k...I can't figure it out for the life of me. Hopefully it gets diagnosed tomorrow. It's driving me insane!!!

Ok, Thanks for the help guys...I've think i narrowed it down to rod knock because i have checked everything else imaginable...But, Before i start yanking my motor out of there...Someone said i had a 6-bolt and other said 7-bolt...Can someone please clarify from the video? I have no idea on what kind of motor to get because the previous owner said it had a motor out of a 93 Talon TSI as of now...What kind of motor should i get? Thanks in advance.

From what I've seen I think it is a 7 bolt but if you are changing the motor you'd be better with a 6 bolt as they are stronger and more reliable.

Sounds like bad rod knock as mentioned before.
You get a 6 bolt if you can, or you can find yourself a healthy 7 bolt and put in a better crank and bearings before slapping it back in. Either way works fine.
just remember, assuming the current motor is not a 6 bolt, there will be a few tweaks you will have to do in order to make it work, nothing out of the ordinary.

Well, The owner said he just put new Rod bearings and such just before I got the car...But hey, Stuff happens right? I'm thinking of just taking my motor out and doing a basic rebuild on it...I think I would learn alot of valuable information. Plus, Know alot more things down the road when i need them. What are the things I defiantly need to do to get my motor in tip-top shape when i take it out. As in, What do i need to have done at the machine shop?

Just get the block rebuilt with better parts, all new bearings, crank, rods while you're at it and pistons, not necessary though but the block will be open so why not upgrade ?
Also do all your maintenance while everything is out and in easy access, all gaskets, etc.

I planned on getting a Wiseco full rebuild kit...And as you said re do all my gaskets and all that good stuff.

ok im confused if its a 2g nt with turbo that would mean its a 420a motor, and i looked at your profile but i did not say when you are looking at your motor what side of the car is your transmission on.

Yeah it was knocking on him so he slapped some bearings in it and sold it. It will run good for about 200 miles and then back to knocking. He stiffed you on that one. I would call him up.

He said it had the motor out of a 93 Talon TSI...Trans is on the passenger side of the car.

Yeah, I hate how low some people are...But oh well...Gotta roll with the punches.

Sounds about what I just went through, my car spun a few bearings on the way home from buying it! My knocking sounded just like yours and the dip stick showed nothing as well. I had a buddy replace my motor with another 2g motor and seems to be running fine.. Only had it a day now LOL!
