 ....somebody tell me some signs for a good motor, i can use one from a guy who has 3 of them .... i was planning on using the 92-93 tsi awd 4g63(turbo)...pretty much same as my stock one that blew.....how can you tell if the motor is still good if its not in a car, this mtor is on his garage floor....he took it outta his body to drop in his cyclone j-spec engine...and seein mine is wasted i need one quick, and wondering if i can tell if this engine is any good....please type up a checklist to see if the motor is good....because if its not then i gotta hunt down an other one....:dsm:

Do a compression and leakdown test on it if you can get it to crank over a few times. I would question someone who took out a "good" engine to put in the same "good" engine. They are the samething for the most part and he didnt get any advantages other than maybe less miles. seems fishey to me.

:laser: :talon:

PS Maybe he is part ricer and just wants to say he has a J spec motor.

no part ricer here, man he got to be the best in the new england area, ..as far as 1st gens ....thats all he deals with....ummm....yea besides a compression check, anything else to look for on that motor to see if it s good???? ...

this guy has a 93 gx last yr at new hempshire he went 12.4 .....on pump gas semi slicks...and of course a way bigger turbo....too much to list, but now he got a nos set-up...he knows his shit....so i sortta trust him, he said 500 for the motor and 250 to install sound bout right????

You still haven't explained why you would honestly want to swap in another engine if yours is perfectly fine? If yours is failing you should just do a leakdown test on yours and see what is failing and then determine if you want to repair it or not. Thats my imput tho.

Otherwise you can just do a leakdown test and just pull the head and check the piston heads and condition of those. Since it's ON THE FLOOR IN A GARAGE I honestly say jerk the head and look at the pistons then consider just checkin out the head also. Possibly remove the pan and check it for fragments of metal?

oo sorry, my motor is junk.....i lost the timing belt at 4800-5000rpm's ...say goodbye to that head...i spent 800 on a head job ...and still no compression so i take it my bottom end is gone too...so to save $$$ im gonnahave to swap 'em..., but i wanna know if i can tell if this motor on the guys floor is still good

Ok, I was simply wondering what happened with your engine or was yours ok. If you read back through the thread it shows what you should do to the engine thats sitting on the floor. So simply scroll back up and read up on what to do bro.
