Ok, this is really confusing. I thought i had figured it out but i was wrong. Ok, so here's the story. I have a transmission leak somewheres and it is leaking out half the oil fast. Within a couple hours its half empty and it stays there. So my dad said its probably a seal where the axle goes into the tranny. I looked under the car and sure enough, there is a steady drip (not even a drip till half way down the trans) coming from where the axle meets the trans on the driver's side. So, i call autozone and they look it up like this:

They call it a selector shaft seal so they type that first.

Year of car: 90

Eagle

Talon

Turbo 4cyl

5 spd

then this is where i dont know what to say: They ask for a few codes.

F5M21-1 F5M21-2 F5M22-2

and another: New venture A8578 or 8A578 (not sure what he said exactly)

Can somebody please tell me wtf that all means and which one i have or how I can figure out which one i have? Any help is GREATLY apreciated.

Thanks guys

Zach

selector shaft seal sounds like the seal at the gear shift levers.

you need the axle or output shaft seal.

and if they still need the numbers they are stamped on the flat spot on top of the trans below the coolant waterneck. good luck reading them though

MD719710 there is the mitsubishi part number. The seal costs less than $10.

Damn the people at autozone here are retarded. They kept saying it was a selector shaft seal. You dont know how much help that part number was for me. It's ordered and hopefully this seal will fix my tranny problems. THANKS AGAIN!!!

no prob :thumb:

be carefull not to bend it when your installing it, it is a tight fit.

picked it up yesterday, had my friend come over and do a catback exhaust build. we still have to get it hung up there (custom hangers) and paint it but when we do that im gonna also do the seal. today i also put in new plugs and gapped them so i should be good to go. i'll post in a seperate thread under "bolt ons" my exhaust pics once its all finished. thanks for the help once again, i cant stress it enough.
