for reference, This suspension will be going on a 98 gsx

Ok, so I have decided to hold off on buying my top mount turbo manifold from jmf and my front mount setup from ets till I decide what I'm going to do about my suspension. my profile is up to date as far as whats all done to my car. Im planning on tuning my for for around 500-600 hp till I get my transmission and drive train beefed up. So far I have bought all solid subframe bushings for front and rear and a master kit from energy suspension. I plan on getting all new ball joints, and a front and rear camber kit.

My dopzone spring and stock struts are worm out, and I would like to upgrade to something better. I was really leaning towards coilovers, but I cannot decide which brand and all that jazz would be a good choice for my car. the car will be a weekend warrior with occasional daily driving. I would like it to hang in the corners pretty well but hold up at drag strip. I had a new set of ksport coilovers bought, but the dude backed out. What brands do you all suggest and why?

Check the most recent group buy.
Do you have a budget?

I didn't notice a recent group buy, but I could have overlooked one.

budget isnt a big deal but I would like to stay under 1200 if possible, I may be able to go up to 1500. The more bang for my buck the better LOL. I was gonna get those k sport coilovers for 600.

I forgot to add The normal rims for the car are 18 by 8 rims with 245/40/18. I would like to lower the car a good bit. I want to get rid of the little gap I have and I will be rolling my fenders

this is how is sits now:

Edit: looks like the group buy has expired :/

Ive only seen DGR coilovers for sale, never heard of anyone actually using them so i cant vouch.

Id get some skirt caps while i was spending money if i were you too.

If you want extreme height adjustment along with a stiffer ride for less than $1500, then any ol' coilover will do. Megan, K Sport, DGR, BC, etc.

However, in the handling department you will be out performed by nearly any spring/shock combo of similar price. Especially when dropped ^ that low.

Not that there's anything wrong with lowering for looks. Just be aware that form doesn't always equal function.

Pick up some DGR coilovers, they sell for around 1200. They are a good coilover for the price and will do what you ask.

I haven't seen or heard alot about DRG, so I will look into them. Thanks

I haven't either but thats why they make google, to get info, So I will be looking into them. I do have skirt caps, that picture was actually with my fenders just slapped on the car to see how the new rims and tires looked, I was shaving and painting my engine bay. A buddy of mine needed money so i got the rims and tires for 400, the tires had 1500 miles on them if that.

Not to sound arrogent but I dont mind spending the money on nice coilovers that will last and handle, but will take the abuse of a high hp car. I'm actually more of a function over form person, but I would like a decent amount of height adjustment. The reason i really want coilovers is because I live out in the country and like being able to decide how low is to low. I don't want to look like a monster truck going down the road, but I don't want to plow the road up.

What coilovers would you suggest? Or do you prefer spring/shocks. I just dont like not being able to adjust height LOL.

The best combo for the money you're looking to spend is a Koni/GC setup. This will give you a high quality shock (better than all the coilover packages you're looking at) and a coilover sleeve which will allow you to adjust ride height. You can do some searching on here for more info on why this setup is highly recommended.

i looked at that setup, but I have never ran coil sleeves. I dont mind spending the money as long as its worth it. Ive blown way past my original budget and I have changed my setup over a dozen time during my build. I like the idea of coilovers, i don't know why.

snowboarder what combination do u have? If I raised my budget what would u suggest?

I've got the D2 coilovers and ride really nice and made a world of difference for me. But that was coming from worn out stock suspension and a blown strut. Haha

If you want the ultimate suspension setup for a 2g, it's the DG setup. This is the one that Nicklepage1010 referred to with the group buy comment. This will get you a Koni shock, Hypercoil coilover sleeve and spring setup, and a coaxial upper hat (the key to a good suspension setup on these cars). I used to run the Tein Flex setup and thought they were great until I switched to the Koni setup. These things drive far smoother and won't jar my teeth out like the Tein's did. I thought the rough ride was attributed it to being a good "race coilover" but it was indeed just a crappy shock that was the culprit.

The DG setup will run you about $2k or so, depending on how cheap you can get the machined parts.
