OK well when i push my clutch in (pressed) it makes a whirring noise like a tob but when i let the clutch out it goes away. I have a problem with my clutch disengaging also which im going to shim the pivot ball this weekend. Could these be related? i read that the opposite of a tob noise is a pilot bearing but how does that go bad just by putting a new clutch in? I geuss you have to LOVE to HATE Dsm to keep it running haha. thanks in advance

Yes, these could very well be related.

How long ago was the clutch replaced? Make sure the clutch pedal was adjusted, if the engagement point is too far down to the ground, you could experience engagement problems. I'm not sure if this is related at all, but bleeding the clutch wouldn't hurt, since it's simple and quick. Couldn't hurt to check the clutch master and slave cylinders while you're down there as well, even though I'm sure there'd be a more pronounced problem if either of these were failing. If the pedal engagement point is fine, the best bet is to take off the bell-housing and check the situation out. My only guesses would be the TOB or a worn down pivot ball on the clutch fork (shim, or buy new for ~$50 at diamondstarmotorsport.com, RRE, or Slowboy). Those are the usual suspects for engagement/disengagement noises. Make sure to grease the TOB and the fork. Check both the flywheel and clutch for anything unusual, just in case.

Also, make sure the retaining clip for the TOB is installed correctly, it only goes on one way. It should be flush to the TOB. If there's space between the clip and the TOB, take it off, flip it around, and re-install.

DSM's don't have pilot bearings sir. Honda's Do. Subaru's Do. Just eliminating one more thing for you!

Also, whenever i pull out a tranny, i drain the fluid into a clean pan and look thru it for sparkles of metal. I have even ran a magnet thru it from time to time depending on how bad I thrashed her the night before :notgood:
