hey guys, hows it goin? i have a 1990 tsi awd with 132k and its smokin all the time, on the gas, off the gas...smokes a bit more after idling for a bit for a second or two while on the gas, after that its just a slight puff constantly. im burning about a quart ever 200-300 miles and im not sure what it is. btw, my compression is 150 across and my turbo is a garrett t3/t4 with a bunch of other mods...with my compression that high i doubt its the rings...that only leaves the valve seals or the oil seals in the turbo left...how do i check if its the oil seals in the turbo? or valve seals? ...car runs fine exept past 6k at wot it cuts (its like -10 outside with fmic...thats prolly why)...also had a slight idle surge every now and then, but that doesnt really bug me...anywho, any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated. peace.

when my oil seals on my turbo went out, my intake tract was full of oil.. about half a quart of oil inside my intercooler... big mess.

try taking off your intercooler piping and see if there's oil in there.. if it's clean, chances are it's not your turbo.

aight, ill try that man...do u know if how much oil you could see in the piping near the intake? that one would be the easiest to get at i think....also, my turbo boost fine (i do have a slight leak where the ex. mani and the turbo meet, which i can see blue smoke come out of there as well),...my spark plugs are also clean. so i guess ill check them pipes...

yea, im having the same problem myself... not so much the smoke no more but im constantly burning oil.. and my bov is vented to the atmosphere and you can see residue of oil where my bov is facing... nothin out of control but you can see some oil if you look close enough and feel for it...

OK Guys. if it was oil it would be white smoke, if its blue you have some water getting in with your fuel...Becarefule you might have a blown head gasket. and buy the way if its black smoke than you have a leakage in one of your valve seals.

White Smoke= Burning Oil-- Caused by wore out piston rings.-
Blue Smoke--- Burning water + fuel --- caused by blown head gasket (do a oil change and check your oil .. if its a milky color than its your head gasket)
Black smoke----Burning Oil + fuel----- Caused by leakage in the valve seals

yeah i found this info at a motor shop

blue smoke is oil burning. white smoke is coolant burning. black is running rich.

blue smoke is caused usually by your turbo seals, valve guides, pistons rings and such.

i had bad piston rings and i was blowing out white smoke because i am bunirng oil.
My friend had black smoke when he took of the return hose to his turbo meaning the car is going to run rich
and my other friend was blowing out blue smoke when had a blown head gasket( he dumped the oil out and it was a milky ccolor..

how bout this, ill clear it up and say that the blue SMELLS like oil too...not a good thing, just thought id clear this up a bit

oil isn't white, unless you're pouring milk into your oil pan or something. my friends car was burning oil and it was blue. my car right now has a blown headgasket and its white smoke from coolant.
