Help 2g Rear Strut Question

sorry for putting this in this section but i have to have to responce pretty quickly

i am installing coilovers on my 95 tsi awd and i got the front done and it looks real good - when i take the rear struts out and then goto remove the springs - i get the springs off but i cant get the mount off of the spring - is there a trick to this? and also there is those black dust cover things around the strut inside the springs - it wont come off the strut either it feels almost welded on but i dont see any weld spots ???? i dont kno what is holding this stuff on but it is stopping me from being able to drive my car. If anyone has delt with this before and knows what i am talking about PLEASE HELP!

not sure exactly what you are talking about.

EDIT: i re-read your post and deleted my first responce.

There is nothing holding those on but 10 years of road grime. whack it with a hammer or something. I'd suggest buying some new struts if your installing coil-overs (high performance ones). I first installed a set of coil overs on my car re-using the stock shocks, it rode like ass, serious.
