[HELP] 2 different differentials in AWD 2G

Hello I am new to this forum and couldn't post this under the Drive-train tech section so I am posting it here, I recently bought a 97 talon TSI and the guy I bought it from did an automatic to manual conversion to it. When I was looking at the car I noticed the rear tires were significantly bigger than front ones, immediately I was skeptical of buying the car, but he said that the reason for the tire size difference was because the rear differential is for an automatic and the front for manual, and the reason the tires in the back are bigger is to make up for the different gearing ratio of the different differentials,

EDIT: Is this okay or should I be worried?

does anyone know anything on this? Please help

I am trying to find out if that is okay for my car, or is something going to break, sorry should have specified.

Id try to pull the numbers on the "swapped" parts. Auto rear diff in manual is bad news dont matter what tires are on it

you can usually find manual rear diffs for 2gs in the classified section frequently. that would be the route best to follow
