Hello, soon to be DSM owner, need advice!

Hey guys, I'm a recently turned DSM fan after seeing the capability of the Talon TSi and others. So let me start off by telling you a little about myself. My name is Sean, I like in Frederick, Maryland. I'm 17 and just got my license 2 months ago but I've been obsessed with cars pretty much since the original Fast&Furious movie came out haha. Anyways my first car was a POS 1999 Nissan Sentra GXE, and it broke down, the problem is that its engine is "fried" (sorry for the lack of detail, I wasn't told what the problem was exactly) and the transmission needs replacing as well. Not to mention the extreme need of a paint job because the paint is faded literally all around the car. So instead my parents and I decided to start searching for a new car because it'd cost around the same as fixing up the Sentra. And so I stumbled upon the Eclipse, Laser, and Talon. My budget is 2000 dollars, maybe a little extra pushing it. Now the Talon TSi has me obsessed the past couple of days and I'm on the edge of purchasing one BUT, I just don't know enough to see if it's a good buy or not. I'm new the the whole engines&tuning thing and I'm eager to learn. Now the Talon, from what I understand, is a bang-for-your-buck type of car and I LOVE those. Like the STi, Evo, or GT-R. Anyways, I was wondering if you guys could give me a few pointers and a little knowledge before I buy something.

The first one is the one that has my attension the most but requires some minor fixes. The guy says the prices of the items that are needed, but I don't really know where to acquire some, or how much it'll really cost me. Any ideas?

The 2nd and 3rd cars seem fine to me, but then again I'm way too new to these things.

If you have interest, and an understanding about these cars, I would go for the first one. You would need to go check it out and see how its built. Good quality parts or half-arsed. If you want a modded car sometimes its best to get one from someone who has already done some work on it, as long as its done right. Thats where the needed knowledge comes in for that purchase.

The second one I am betting has boost leaks (hence his comment about clogged fuel filter or pinched wiring) and probably some other easy fix maintenence issues. It's pretty stock. That would probably be your best choice of the 3 as far as reliability goes, if you can go look at the car and check out the motor. Compression tests etc... It will be more reliable, and perhaps less "upkeep" than the first one.

The last one you listed, I wouldn't even personally go look at. I bet it has its problems and they are trying to unload it. That's just my gut feeling.

Thats the problem with used cars, usually people are selling them because they are tired of their problems...most people wont get rid of something that is in good working order. It does happen, but most the time there are issues. So be prepared that even if you spend 2000.00 today, its not gonna stop there. I dont mean fun spending either. There will be things to fix, and things will go wrong.

Just ignore this guy totally. Just freaking wow...

I would stick with a 2G turbo model. They are worth more and definitely more of a pleasure to drive. The 1G's are nice but mostly they are all hacked up anymore and parts for them aren't that easy to find.

So far all cars I see require some kind of repair. I found some more that are more valid.

1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS (Says it stalls "every now and then" because of fuel filter he says. Could that be the cause of it or could it be something more severe?)

1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse This one the owner says it just needs a battery and clutch replaced. He's got the parts, except the battery. I offered him 2250 and he accepted.But what concerns me is how much will it cost in labor to change the clutch. Rough estimate?

Um id not trust it if i cant hear it run as i stated before what happend to my friend screw that unless he has a battery to put in and you can hear it run id stay away also hows he know for sure its just the clutch?
