Heli coil for head bolt

So awhile back when i was replacing head gasket, t belt, water pump etc. The front drivers side head bolt destroyed the threads upon removal, so i taped everything off, i drilled it, i heli coiled it, i torqued it. Now what are the chances of it giving me problems down the road?

Are you using stock head bolts or ARP studs? For a stock set up, a temp fix this is, but not long term.

Yes, they were brand new bolts but stock nonetheless. Before i did all that work, the highest preset i set on my boost controller was 20psi with aquamist injection kit, and i have a feeling if i wanna turn boost up now, that the helicoils gunna start pulling out.

If you would have used ARP head bolts, you would have seen the failure of the coil. I would be buying another block at this point in time. The head gasket is critical to the health of a DSM, any weakness here and you will be calling a tow truck.

Just have to hope for the best. So if it ends up failing is there another alternative, id hate to have to replace the block because of it.

If done properly, helicoils will be fine. Don't worry about it.

If it is not mess up yet, you are fine. Done right, helicoil is tough. If you do have an issue, get the time sert kit or have a machine shop put in one for you. Time sert fits better so it hold great. The kit can be pricy so shop around. Most of the cost of a time sert comes from the jigs to drill the block straight. The time sert itself is dirt cheap.

Just have to hope for the best. So if it ends up failing is there another alternative, id hate to have to replace the block because of it.

Depending on how large you drilled the hole, we should be able to convert it to 1/2 headstuds when/if it fails.

I cant remember the size off the top of my head. i bought it as a set, that came with the drill bit, the tap and the tool to install helicoil for stock thread and pitch head bolt.
