Guys, I need to replace my hub/slider and was wondering if anyone knew if there was any modification required to replace my current 3/4 gearset and slider with the 1990/91 stuff?

I do know that the 3rd and 4th gear set needs to be replaced. I know that the hub/slider needs to be replaced and it already comes with the syncros. I know that the hub springs x2 need to be replaced and that the 3/4 shift rail and shift fork needs to be replaced. Im just wondering if any machining needs to be performed?

Any information is greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
Storm

it drops in. Either one will have Spacers. You are not droping in the 90-91 stuff you will be droping in the 92 stuff and yes it is a direct drop in with the 90-92 fork. You will also need to set the input shaft endplay when you are done.

you will need the 3rd gear, 4th gear, hub and slider from 92. I would help you out with the part numbers but my computer is down right now.

I have Caps, and I have the numbers in front of me.
When you say 92, do you mean 92 being the year number, or a car manufactured in 92?
Do you know a exact build date, or have a VIN?

Thanks,
C

You will want to use the 92 build date. The gears and hub/slider you want are the gears and hub/slider that are for the same car as the 90-92 shift fork. The shift fork changes in mid 92, you want the stuff that goes with that earlier shift fork, not the later one.

I have parts from a 90 tranny...

I guess the fork and rail are the same, but the hub, sleeve, 3rd and 4th are all different...
Anyone ever hear of the earlier style gears grenading?

The 90 gearset is in effect a 'heavy duty' gear set. I like the tooth profile on the 90-91 gears better than the 92-99, the blunt edge seems like it might be more durable. You can use the 90 3/4 parts but you will need a 90-91 intermediate shaft and a 90-91 center diff basket. I would avoid using the earlier style synchro rings with the paper type insert.

oh yea and the rail is different on a 90
