ok so my daily drive i have had not to long put almost 1500 miles on it, she drives really nice fun car for a Plymouth motor, my temp gage says my car runs at normal temp and it seems to work fine but after a 20 min drive just around town not punching it or anything the engine bay area feels hot is this normal, it runs fine no signs of burning hoses or anything its just like a lot hotter then any car ive owned previously. any idea what it is or if its normal ?

I'd check coolent level to be safe , does your fans kick in when the thermostat opens?

But yeah its pretty normal I'd say as long as your not melting the fans or anything than your fine!

chump no shit i know how motors work ive owned many cars from a 1996 mustang a did a motor swap put a v8 supercharged in it i had a dodge stealth r/t twin turbo and they were built very well and they were hot but not that hot, as far as the fans turning on idk ill have to check but the coolant is normal it just is very hot compared to other cars ive had as long as i dont detect any damage idc but if there is something idk about well thats why im asking

You're posting in the newbie forum. I assumed you're a newbie. Sorry. Thanks for the background. As long as your gauge is working properly don't worry about it. Fans maybe a bad ground or fuses but you probably already knew that. The engine bay is very tight so the heat gets concentrated quickly and will feel hotter externally. As long as you're internal temps are within operating parameters then you have no issue. If the fans aren't working then when you get out to check you are stopped and heat soaking all the components so it will feel hotter. Figure out the fans and update us on what you find.

Is this for a 420a motor different than the GSX your talking about in another thread? A 4G63T is hot under the hood as usual with but a 420a car has more room in the engine bay to dissipate heat a little better. But I never owned a 420a so I don't know how hot they usually run. If temp gauge looks to be functioning properly you are fine.

no my 4g63 is in my shop im building it, i got a sanded shell waiting to be painted too, but my 420a is just my daily driver i have got on it a few times but without a turbo its gutless compared to what the gsx is

Cooling issues were always a pain for me when I drove 420a's. What you're describing sounds normal, but I would put a better temp gauge on there when you can. The stock one only really only reads normal and overheating, hard to tell when things are just starting to go bad.

Like others have said, the hood will always feel a bit warmer than other cars, just because the exhaust is right there in the front. If your fan is coming on and the car isn't overheating, it's probably fine.

thanks problem solved the previous owner, installed the valve cover gasket wrong and it was expelling heat there
