I'm using a cheap intake manifold heat barrier gasket. And I was wonder if copper sealant should be used on both sides of the gasket. Someone told me not to use it, but I think it will help seal the gasket better. What do you guys think? BTW, it's ultra copper from permatex.

Honestly there is not much use for a heat barrier gasket on a turbo car the air is coming in hot already. But the gasket will crush when installed and should seal fine but you should be okay with the copper gasket if you choose.

How reusable are the heat barrier gaskets? The most appealing thing to me was i could just use some sealant on it every time i reinstalled it. or is that wishful thinking? anyone ever have problems installing a used heat barrier intake gasket?

At some unknown point they will dry out and get brittle and will no longer seal. Or they will get crushed so much that they wont seal. Just depends on how much you take it on and off, or how long it has been run on the car.

Use the copper sealant if you'd like to never remove your intake again. Stuff is like glue.

I honestly love the copper spray. :hellyeah:

I would shoot a light coat on both sides of the gasket. Wait a few minutes for it to tack up then install.

The only thing that sucks is that if you need to take the intake manifold off, you need to clean everything up, remove the copper spray, before re-assembly.

But in all honesty, as long as your mating surfaces are clean and fairly true, you won't need anything except for the gasket itself.

I use copper spray on just about everything, I love it and it cleans up easily if you just dip a rag in some parts cleaner and rub it off.

I've just installed a heat barrier on my new RVR manifold and I'm pleased with it, I'm not sure I have any better performance from it but it sealed well, mine was from Hondata. My experience is that it makes even non-reusable gasket reusable to some degree, I kept having problems with my TB and the gaskets that are on it have been off about five times. I also use it on the exhaust side.

I've used the same phenolic gasket for 2 rebuilds (taken off 4 times) and always reseal it with a bit of RTV. The trick to these suckers is to torque inside out and evenly across the intake manifold. My .02, they actually DO work. My SMIM used to get piping hot after a run or two at the strip, it was actually warm enough to touch after the gasket. Besides, any intake drop is worth it!
