Head swap and possibly block as well?

I need a lot of information on this subject, as much as I can get actually. I have a 1992 Talon TSi front wheel drive automatic for a daily driver. But I recently bought a 1992 Talon TSi AWD manual with a messed up engine for a project car. After I bought it is started and ran but knocked and made a lot of noise. Ran like crap and then the top end seized. I can still crank the engine, but only the bottom end turns. I am assuming this means I will need a new head?

The engine is almost out of the AWD and then I will know for sure on the head. But I recently also came into possession of a complete 97 GST 4G63 engine, with low miles. I don't want to have to take the head off of my FWD daily driver to make the project run. Can I just put on this 2nd gen head on to the 1st gen block? Or should I swap the block and head and put the whole 2nd gen engine into the 1st gen car to make it run? Would like to know what is best and what will work? All opinions will help
Thanks :D

I think you might have to switch out a cam, because in the 97-99 don't they have a CAS on one of the cams? I'm a 1g guy so I'm not sure either but im sure a 2gb guy can chime in here.....

a 2g head will not fit on a 1g block. The head studs are differents sizes. The 1g has bigger studs so you will not be able to either get the head over the studs if you use ARPs or you wont be able to get the OEM bolts through the 2g head.

The 2g head has smaller intake runners so the intake wont match if it even fits up.

The CAS (Cam angle sensor) is different but as long as you use your old you will be fine.

Basically if you want to use your 2g head you will need 2g Intake, 2g TB, something to block the MAP on the 2g intake, the 2g head will need to be machined to take the large bolts.

Good Luck.

Actually a 2g head will fit on a 1g block. You will need to switch to 6 bolt head studs and drill the headstud holes in your head from 11mm to 12mm.

Alright thanks, that sounds pretty correct to me. I did notice that the intake ports were different. Looks like I will be selling that 2nd gen engine now. Ok, the head stud part sounds like it could be feasible but a little bit of work. I think I am going to just look for a 1st gen head to put on it now.
