I recently had a new cometic MLS hg (87.5) installed with ARP head studs. Drove it for 100 miles with no boost. Started boosting and finished at 20 psi. Now I have a cooling problem and it's caused by compression air getting in too the radiator fluid and forcing the coolant out of the reservoir. Which is boiling hot and not recirculating back into the motor. Thermostat can not open cause of this problem. So any idea's besides replacing the HG with another one and my machine shop guy said he would o-ring the cylinders but is that necessary?:dsm: :thumb: :dsm:

Removing the thermostat will not solve his problem.

Try running a compression test to see if there are any obvious breaches in the head gasket seal.

If that doesn't yield any results, go pick up a 'Block Testor' from Autozone or the like. It basically tests your coolant for hydrocarbons from the combustion process.

Those Cometic gaskets like perfectly machined mirror finished head and block surfaces, and even then they can still have sealing problems.

O-ringing is an option, but if your gasket can't hold 20psi I'd suspect improper head/block surface.

What did you torque your ARPs to?

I had the machine shop do all the work. Do you think they could have not torqued it too the right setting. Before this happened I heard popping noise coming from the motor like 1 pop ever 3 or 4 seconds. I think they were the studs. What do you all think it was?

Mine did the same thing. The head gasket could be good but the head my not be true(flat). The problem I had was the guy who did my head gasket didn't retorque the bolts back down after he drove it around. So try to retorque the head bolts back down. I battled the same problem until I retorqued the bolts back down and no problem since. :thumb:
