Well my GVR4 is screwed up so I need to get the head off and back together as quickly as possible on my 1g beater.

I need a plan here guys.

If I determined through all methods shown here that all I need is a head gasket and timing belt/balance belt can I get all of my parts 100% locally?

My 93 1g has a 6 bolt engine so I guess that I could potentially re-use the head bolts but I'd rather not since at minimum the head gasket is blown.

Can I get new head bolts locally and would you trust them? I don't have the time to wait for ARP studs to come my way.

I'd really like your suggestions on how far I can go using my local auto parts stores to get 100% of what I need.

My local stores are Advance Auto, Napa, and Autozone. I try to stay away from Autozone personally.

Just how far can I take this locally guys?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Felpro's composite head gasket is a great gasket and has been used on 600hp_+ motors. They are also cheap and can seal very well even on a improperly surfaced block/head although you should NEVER try to get away with it. They are sold at Autozone.

O'Riley's sells Gates timing components as far as a kit it's great and cheap. Gates makes the OEM belts for Mitsubishi and Hyundai (Hyundai also has a 4g63 in one of their cars). A lot of other autoparts stores sell Gates as well but I'm not sure who has the belts for certain besides O'Riley's.

Gates also makes OEM water pumps for the 4g63. However it is intended for Hyundai and not Mitsubishi, it works EXACTLY the same. When you take off the OEM water pump from Mitsubishi you will notice it has a fan blade like design and the Hyundai style pump has a flat almost watermill like design.

As far as new studs pretty much everywhere sells Felpro and they will work fine.

Thanks for the pointers. No O'Riley's around here though and I grudge going to Autozone due to past negative experiences. However, you have made your point on the Felpro Gasket. I will go that path.

Thanks!

Stock 6-bolt head bolts are considered equal to (if not better) than standard ARP head studs.

In that case, would you suggest that I go and get some new ones from the dealer or a vendor? Would you bother measuring the old ones? I have a digital caliper on hand to take measurements.

Thoughts?

Thanks
