Having Fuel delivery issues, Car sat for a long time.

Im helping a fellow DSM'er with build, We have a newly rebuilt engine installed and everything is wired up and I know that we have spark, but no fuel (checked fuel rail bone dry). I should also mention this car has been sitting for a LONG time, so long in fact that when we pulled the fuel pump out, the gaskets were in horrible shape (very goo'ie like) and the fuel pump had mineral deposits and rust all over it. I know that that we are getting power to the pump, through the harness, but the pump doesn't want to deliver the fuel up to the engine. Ohm pump itself and I got 1.5ohms. Has anyone had problems like this before with long sitting cars and no fuel delivery? Would it be anything other than the pump? Thanks for the input.

its the pump. i often get vehicles that sat for years with fuel in the tank. pull the pump out and replace it, i do not even attempt to reuse them. siphon out all the gas that you can through the fuel pump spot. then i use a brush and hot soapy water back inside the tank to get as much crap out as possible and a shop vac (be in a well ventilated area, if your shop vac explodes because you didn't get most of the gas out i do not want to hear about it. ) then after i vacuum out the water and sludge you can use an air compressor to dry the tank a little more. do not worry about a little bit of water being left in the fuel tank. if you new how much water you were buying when you bought fuel from the gas station you would be shocked.

if the outside of the pump looks like that, what do you think the inside of the pump looks like?

Id also suggest to replace the fuel filter. Other than that, I think ^^ covered it.

Ya already have a new filter in it. Its bulit right.

after you get it running and run a tank or 2 of gas through the car replace the fuel filter again. there is a lot of buildup in the lines and a lot of gunk on the bottom of the tank you will not be able to get too.
