So my PTE-5031E died after about 1000 miles, I suspect high oil pressure as I have no balance shafts and ran it without a restrictor. I got it re-built locally by Performance Techniques who re-placed the entire center section and wheels with genuine Garrett parts and then ran it with a restrictor but that one only lasted a few hundred miles. I will be taking that turbo back this Monday to have them help me guess what killed it.
Also while checking my oil pressure I was free revving the engine in neutral and my fifth gear welded itself to the fifth gear hub. As near as I can tell this happened because I let the car idle up to full operating temperature with the front elevated on jack stands so the oil pooled to the back and as it was in neutral the front differential was not spinning to circulate the oil up to the gear stacks. So I basically let it idle itself dry for 15 minutes while it warmed up and then revved the car to 5200 RPM with still no oil and where the gear and hub met got very hot.
