My 90 Laser I just bought has no hatch struts in the rear, and am looking into slapping some in there. I have an 89 Dodge colt hatch with good struts in, and was wondering if those would work decently in a 1g.

If it could, that'd save me a few bucks since I'm always broke.

I was going to try it myself, but I thought I might ask to see if anyone else here has tried it before.

Sorry for posting it in the wrong area.

You should be able to go to or call the local auto parts store and find out if the hatch struts part numbers are the same for the 89 colt & 90 Laser

Question??? Call me stupid but, the hatch struts is what keeps the hatch up when you open the trunk right? I need a pair too.

Unlikely. 1G struts are about $35 a pair. Be glad you don't have a 2G, where the price is assrape.

Tell me about it. I was tired of having to hold up the hatch whenever I needed to get into the back end, so I broke down and bought some. From my work, they were $45 EACH. The best price I found was at Napa, closer to $31. I just price-matched to Napa, but even then, I had to order them.

My advice: Shop around for the best price and best availability.

I have heard of reconditioning shops, but the only one I've found online was in Canada. Too bad, because there shouldn't be much more to it than blarping in a fresh charge of gas.

Be glad you don't have a 2G, where the price is assrape.

Only if you don't know where to shop.

I get mine for 2G models from a Mitsu dealer. They probably have 1G struts too.

About $22 each at Mentor Mitsubishi in Ohio and they charge only a max of 10% shipping so it should be under $50 for two new factory struts. I have bought three sets recently for cars I buy and resell and they all work great.

Ask for Scott or Mario and they'll be sure to get you the right parts. I accidently got struts for a Spyder trunk one time but that was my fault for not paying attention during the online drill-down parts lookup. On 2G's there is a right and left strut due to the attached brakets on the foot.

Ah, yes. The Stupid Effing Brackets They Never Had To Attach In The First Goddamned Place. Yet another DSM engineering triumph.

Good price, though, and first I've heard of them being anywhere near reasonable. :thumb:
