Hatch drain clogged

I washed my car the other day and noticed that there was a puddle of soap sitting on the drip rails of both sides of the hatch. I tried sticking a couple things in there to clear up the drain lines but no luck. Any ideas?

I usually use a metal coat hanger and just push it in the hole. It empties out directly below so you should be able to find the other end of the tube to make sure the coat hanger is coming out. Then I usually take a funnel, put it in the hole, and run a lot of water through it to make sure it is draining properly.

So what is that tube made of, I just dont want to puncture it and have water leak in the car.

The drain goes straight down, if you puncture it you shouldnt be doing it. Haha. Mine are plastic.

You can always start by going under the car and finding the tube. This way you can see if there's something in the end blocking it. You could try and shove something up that way to clean it out first.

When I'm working on this I always put a bunch of paper towels in the rail around the drain to help soak up any water and to keep it from overflowing into the car.

Or you could use compressed air. Got an air compressor and a blower attachment? That's usually what I use. It knocks out all of the dirt, and especially the wet, mashed-up leaves that always seem to find their way in there.

[Compressed air will tend to blow the hose off the drain if it's a serious blockage.]

best bet is to use the coat hanger. i did that until i got a compressor for my tools. now i use air... works great. i live on a dirt road. have to do it about once a month. lameness...

Try running some weed eater string in it.
