I hope that this question isn't repeated, I saw the post from "J eclipse 96" and my problem is similar to his, however i do not believe my 95 eclipse GS N/T stutters at 3000 rpms it stutters right after I drive hard. Example: I'm driving my car on the xpreesway at 85mph (5th Gear) then I am forced to slow down and drop a gear, after I do if I mash the accelerater the car continues to jerk hard like sum1 is bumping me from behind. Once this starts it will most likely presist periodicaly until I stop driving all together. It will even do this as low as 3rd gear. With the adding of my engine smoking as said by my mechanic, I keep getting that my engine is going.

I keep putting in money into this car and I can't take it, I put money in to fix a part and the problem is still there. The car recently had a tune up 3-4 mnths ago (I've owned it for 6 mths), i changed the valve cover gasket due to the sparks being drenched with oil. But I am no mechanic so I don't know what to do next. Overall My car jus feels like at times its losing power. Is my engine really going? what shud I do? how can i tell if my baby is dying? Why is my car harlem shakin'? Please try to anser my questions and try to keep it basic, I'm not quite engine literate yet.

I will test the car out today and see if the car does this under or over 3000rpms, and when does it exactly start to do it. I'll give yall the info later.

Find out where the smoke is coming from first. Check your oil for coolant and your coolant for oil. If you have oil that looks like chocolate milk or your car overheats, you've blown your head gasket. The "studder" could come from coolant then entering the combustion chamber and fouling the spark.

If that turns up nothing, do a dry compression test, immediately followed by a wet compression test (pour a capful of oil in the cylinder before screwing the compression tester in). If the numbers go up significantly, your rings are shot and you're getting blowby.

As far as it shaking, it sounds like either a) something is killing the engine (short in wiring harness most likely suspect), or b) tranny or clutch is going.

Do you ever smell your clutch? Does it slip? When it starts bucking, do you hear the ECU click or lose electrical power?

I really don't know how to do any of that oil coolant stuff but I hope its not my clutch I jus got a new kit last month. Pressure plate, slave cylinder etc... How do I do that coolant check and is it smart or possible for a engine rookie such as myself to assist in this matter?

assist nothing this is easy stuff you can do it yourself just open the cap to your coolant and look at the fluid (let it cool down for a while first if you've been driving it) if your coolant is dark like it has oil in it thats a hint then check the oil for coolant you can pull the dipstick and look at the oil if it is kinda tinted greenish you most likely have a blown headgasket. To do a compression test you will need a compression tester you can pick one up for not to much at your local auto store then stick it in the spark plug socket (after removing the spark plug of course) and remove the others to be easy on the motor then disconnect the ignition module check a manual for that one cause you have a n/t and i'm not sure where it is located on that engine and crank the engine and look at the numbers if there really low then pour the cap of oil in there as previously mentioned and crank again to see if there is a difference if there is its blow-by. However in my opinion it sounds like the clutch is slipping then grabbing then slipping then grabbing making it jerky like you said there might be a oil leak in the rear main seal making the clutch get oil on it and then burn off then get more and burn off making it slip then grab then slip then grab. Hope i helped :dsm:

What's this have to do with Harlem?

The Harlem Shake is a dance, well it's supposed to be a dance, but all you're really doing is shaking like you're having a crazy seizure.
