Hard to find 2nd! Alignment or Synchros?

Putting the shifter into 2nd takes much longer than any other gear and requires more force to get it into postion. I just put in BG sycnhro II and its still the same. I thought it was the synchros but if it was shouldnt the BG helped at least a little. Then i see this site:

Now im wondering if maybe its my shifter aligment?
Maybe new metal or polyurathane bushings wouldhelp? And if i put those in do i need to adjust my alignment after?

Anyone out there had this stiff 2nd problem and found a solution?



PS yes i know dsm trannys suck and i probably need a rebuild, but its only the one gear so a rebuild seems a bit drastic.

bushings help, especially the ones under the shifter assembly, but youre 2nd will still suck, especially if syncromesh didnt help at all.

like jerome said, buchings help but they didnt help me as much as i wish they would've. i now have no second gear at all..... if i try to go into second nothing but grinding. i hope you have better luck than i do.
i am now searching all over hell to find a new second gear and syncros. so if anyone knows where i can find them PLEASE let me know.

I'm leaning toward the synchro. A rebuild may seem extreme, but that's just the way it goes with synchros. They wear out. Usually if one part is worn, there are many that are worn. A rebuild is probably just what you need.

oh, one more thing that helped:
go to vfaq, then shifter, then shifter movement fix for alll dsms.
it helps a lot in making the shifting tighter, probably helped me the most, even though i didnt have the movement-try it before doing anything drastic. goodluck

oh and remember the order of what goes where, there's not much but it poped out with mine and i was having trouble figuring it out.
not to jack the thread but does anyone know if short throws help? if so, which one? thanks,

Short throw won't help with the shifting problems.
But B&M is preferred for 2g's.
Cut and redo for a 1g (don't know if they make one).


Either just get a full rebuild kit from teamrip or just get shep to rebuild it.


Whichever is easier.
