hey guys i just replaced my tranny a while ago because it had broken on me. so i got it replaced by some guy. we put a tranny from a 1990 in it and it shifted fine. today i drove it to my girls house and parked it. Once i turned it on to go into reverse it was very hard. it just wont go into any gear at all. it goes into gear when its off. just doesnt when its on. the clutch pedal feels fine in pressure but it started to make this rattling/rumbling noise when i push the clutch pedal in. i noticed there is a crack in the tranny but no fluid leaks out.
what could this be guys.

Is the crack on the bellhousing? I see a few possibilities here. Have someone else press the clutch pedal in while you watch the transmission. See if the transmission moves when the clutch is in. Check the bolts that bolt the transmission to the engine as well. It's possible that the transmission is pivoting away from the engine either opening the crack or just because the bolts are loose. If it is moving have the crack welded if it's in the bellhousing and/or tighten any loose bellhousing bolts. That could also explain the rattling noise when the clutch is in (if it is indeed pivoting).
