hard gas pedal

So on my way home tonight, I noticed the lights kept diming, and noticed the radio cut off once. Then the gas pedal got really stiff, clutch wasnt as stiff but stiffer than usual. I was thinking the battery or alt. But I've never noticed the gas pedal getting stiff like that when I've had issues with either of the 2 in any other vehicle. After I parked it tried to start it and nothing.

I'm gonna take a look at everything in the afternoon when I wake up. Just wondering if anyone had ideas or experiences like this.

The throttle (gas) pedal is a cable driven assembly. I doubt it was in conjunction with your electrical system going crazy, since it's mechanical. Do you still have your cruise control? Shot in the dark, but perhaps the assembly in the cruise box is all gunked up.

+1 for checking for a bad cruise control, also would not hurt to clean the throttle body.

check your alt fuse under the hood and make sure that didn't pop for any reason, check the battery for voltage.

fuses were ok, someone told me that it was probably the throttle cable, its like -20 right now so didnt feel like going outside and checking much else out. Any other ideas or anyone have something similar like that with the gas pedal being very stiff

Just jumped it and it stayed at idle at 3 grand and wouldnt drop

I know this is an old thread but in order to not start a new one i thought i'd just post here.
Does anyone have any suggestions/advice as to how i can fix my hard gas pedal ?
The car idles and drives fine and my cruise control works fine as well, i also already tried wd40 on the gas pedal and to no avail.
I would like to fix this annoying problem, thanks for any help guys.

I have the exact same problem - it's binding in the cruise control garbage that's installed somewhere. It's even keeping me from going WOT. I'm deleting the CC myself and installing a non-cc throttle cable.

Even though i don't use my cruise control, just the fact knowing it's functional makes me not want to toss it, i want to keep it. I know there must be some way to fix it.

Take off your intake, spray a TINY bit of carb cleaner into the TB, and use a toothbrush around the throttle plate, works for me!

When it gets stiff like that its a good sign its going out. Is it stiff just at frist or is it for the full travel of the pedal?

had the same prob since i had mine this is the cable being to tight it would happen after the car would warm up it used to jump all the way to 5000 rpm not good when driving home on a new clutch

My 95 GST gas pedal used to get stuck up and would be hard, some throttle body cleaner and a scrapeout worked great, no problems since.

I think i'll try the carb cleaner idea. I thought it would be more of a throttle cable issue but i'll try out every way possible until the gas edal problem gets solved. I'll spray the thottle cable links with wd40 and carb cleaner in the TB and see how that goes.

Open the hood and try actuating the throttle by had by rotating the throttle cable guide on the back of the throttle body. If that feels tight or gets stuck your shaft seals or the throttle plate are binding. If it feels loose or normal, your problem is either in the cable or accelerator pedal.

Also, make sure your floor mat isn't bunched up under or interfering with the accelerator pedal.

the tsi i am going to get has the same problem. it has a 90 6 bolt so i am not sure if that would cause the problem as well..
