I am halfway though my engine rebuild of my 1991 eagle talon tsi when i get a phone call that changed my life...this guy i met through work is selling a 95 tsi for $900!!! I couldn't pass it up so i bought it. The 95 he "thinks" had crankwalk. I have no idea what the symptoms of crankwalk are but the car still drove under its own power after some "incident" on the freeway. He had the head off and the valves looked great, the head itself looked awesome, no signs of any foul play in the head. The bottom end is still attached so all i could see is the pistons and walls the everything looks great there. I think some crank bearings went or maybe something else.

So this is where i need your help!!

Here are the specs:

91 tsi awd 5spd:
bottom end rebuilt, new rings and bearings, ect... just reused pistons
rebuilt 91 tsi head rebuilt with new everything but cams, ported, polished and 3 angle vavle job
5 spd transmission with new clutch

95 tsi awd AUTO:
bottom end maybe crankwalk maybe not?
the head looks good, maybe need to be rebuilt
auto tranny

is there anyway to put the 91 tsi setup (engine and tranny) into the 95?

please let me know!!! if not what other options do i have?

thanks
-kyle

Check the VFAQ.com They'll have a list of parts, With both cars though, you may already have everything.

You'll need this. I think MAgnus sells it.

The vfaq mt/at swap only covers 1g auto to a 1g manual, i need a 1g auto tranny into a 2g auto....

edit: what piece are u refering to in that cardomain picture

You will want to keep the 2G AT if you stay AT. It's widely recognized to be a stronger item than a 1G AT. If so, and you want to use a 6 bolt with a 2G at tranny, you'll need a flexplate adaptor kit that IPT is selling. Check the atdsm site and you'll find the info you need.

If you want to go with a 1g 5spd, then you'll need a 5 spd rear end, at the very least.

If you were wanting to go 5 spd in the 2g, locate a 95-99 trans, you'll be more happy with it then a 1g trans. They can be found for around 5 hundy if you look hard enough

which route are you wanting to take?

Drive trains are not swappable. Well, in a bolt on sense. the trans, and everything use different mounting areas that just make it difficult. I've been wanting a 95 or so TSI like that to do a conversion but I have a 2g Spyder. I've done a lot of research on it. Except the engine, none of the other drive train parts are interchangeable. Best, just sell me the 95tsi with or without motor and use the $ to get a 1G somewhere else :D

Didn't he give you a description of what happened to it? Smoke, odd sound, anything? Sounds like it could be a rod bearing or something from what little you've indicated. Either way, pick up a good 2G engine, throw it in, and sell the 2G. Then use the money to finish your 1G. ;)

i really like the 2g, and the 1g but if were to sell one or the other i would sell the 1g. What i really want is to keep both and make the 2g a 5spd and put the 6 bolt in the 2g.

Did you say that the 95 TSi was an auto? And that you are rebuilding 1g? If the 95 is a manual, I would say to drop that 1g motor/tranny into the 2g. The looks are much more stylish.

i think you can get a built tranny for a pretty decent price if you sell the 1g. the only thing is, i think you are gonna need a 5 speed rear if you do that.

think of it this way...

tear the motor out of ur 1g and put it in a 2g...

your 1g is going to be worht NOTHING without a engine... dont care how clean it is... you wont get more han a few hundred parting it out....

2g runs... needs some work... fix it for little sell it for 5000 and put that money into your 1g to go fast... or sell your 1g and 2g and buy a better awd 5spd 2g........

dont waist the 1g shell if its already in good shape

It would also be a good idea to check with the state and federal emission laws. In most states it is elegal to put an engine in a car that is older than the car it's self.
