H1N1 anyone had it yet?

My 7 year old 2nd cousin had this back ~4 months ago - powered right through like a good trooper.
Luckily, these stories are quite common. Not everyone is seeing the extreme effects that are being broadcast through the media... and that's a good thing. But I cringe when I hear people who see a few people make it through just fine talking about how it's being blown out of proportion. The fact that schools are still being closed down because of it should give you a pretty good idea of the potential harm it can do. If it were no big deal, I doubt you'd see the same level of precautions being taken by businesses and agencies.

I think what concerns me the most is the fact that information is being passed through the medical system so slowly. Never before have I heard so much conflicting information from doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals. Our doctors don't know if or when they're going to receive the vaccine, how much they're going to get, who will be eligible, or when they're going to find out for sure. All they know is that they've signed up for a couple lists to hopefully get it at some point.

So far, it sounds like there will only be enough at first to vaccinate those who are most at risk, which means my pregnant wife and my 2 year old daughter will be among that group... not sure that includes me though.

I couldn't agree more. We have people at work today that are clearly ill - it shows the lack of respect they have for this extremely virulent strain of influenza. By coming into work they are putting everyone at risk of getting ill, which is particularly concerning for those that work here with compromised immune systems.

Do everyone a favor and if you get it, stay at home. To do otherwise would simply be selfish. The best thing you can do if you haven't caught it yet is to practice universal precautions and keep a bottle of alcohol-based hand sanitizer handy (Triclosan-based sanitizer and soaps are not only ineffective, but also unhealthy, as it makes you immune to a whole line of antibiotics).

My biggest concern with this new vaccine is the mercury content. Not a big deal to adults or even older kids, but who really knows if it causes autism in young kids or not... My 2yo daughter is sick with the flu right now; we are waiting on the h1n1 test to come back in.

H1N1 is just the government scam, trying to force their ideas on us. Do you know how many people die yearly in the US from the flu? I won't spoil the suprise, just look it up.

A goverment scam? What does that even mean? Do you know how many people yearly get the flu compared to die from it. There are TONS and TONS of people that get the flu, of course some will die from it. This is just another strain of the flu, not some conjured up government BS. You can blame the media for covering it and blowing it out of proportion. It seems similar to mono in the fact that you are completely wiped out and can't move for a few days, most seem to be back to normal in a week or two.

I suppose the good in all this as I lay here with a throat that is so sore I've been spitting into a garbage can is the fact that I can't get this particular strain again anytime soon....that is, until 5 years from now when the "Bovine Flu" or whatever barnyard flu starts going around.

All I know is this f-in blows.

Yep, you've just been "Vaccinated". Lucky ;) I'm kidding. Sorry for your mis-fortune. Hope you get well soon.

People should take this more serious, my cousin has it, shes about 35. Two counties from me a 28 year old man died from it, he was in good health, he ran
5k races, the hospital has went to pandemic level, they have 20 h1n1 patients, 10 of those are in critical condition. I pray and believe the good Lord will see us through this if we use common sense. Peace be to all, take care. God bless.

If you don't understand spanish I translated this vid.

May 1997. In Hong Kong the first human case of AH5N1 better known as Avian flu is discovered.

December 1997. Avian flu has infected 18 people. And caused 6 fatalities.

February 2003. An outbreak of avian flu in Hong Kong caused 2 people to be infected and 1 fatality.

Mid 2005. Apparitions of H5N1 are reported in humans in northeast China and east Russia.

September 2005. World health organization in Geneva Switzerland warns that the number of people that could die from an outbreak of avian flu is 7.4 million.

October 2005. In UK a case of H5N1 is confirmed in a parrot.

November 2005. George Bush visits the national institute of health in Maryland and predicts that in the US alone, 2 million people will die from avian flu.

June 2006. Experts from the world health organization consider possible that in Sumatra the first case of transmission between humans is given. Where 8 members were infected but none of them died.

July 2006. The first case of avian flu is confirmed in a bird in Spain.

June 2009. Nobody speaks of avian flu anymore.

Do you know what measures the US government took on 11/2/05 when they assured that there would be at least 2 million deaths due to avian flu? that day Bush approved a budget of $7,100,000,000 for prevention and acquisition of medicament from which $1,200,000,000 were destined to elaborate and acquire 20,000,000 doses of the vaccine against H5N1.

Up until now, people would say that we have a honorable president dedicated to it's people's health. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Nothing out of the ordinary?

1996. Gilead patens tamiflu as a medication against several types of flu.

1997. Donald Rumsfeld, Chairman of Gilead sciences since 1988 is named president of the company. Remember that name.

1997. Gilead makes an agreement with Swiz international lab Roche to fabricate and distribute tamiflu until the year 2016 in exchange of 10% of the total sales.

Donald Rumsfeld was president of Gilead sciences until 2001. And guess why he retired? He was named secretary of defense in Bush's first presidency. The same honorable president that in the year 2005 approved a budget of which 1,200 million dollars were destined to Rumsfeld's ex company to elaborate 20 million doses of tamiflu to prevent the supposedly deaths of 2 million people in the United States due to avian flu.

Do you know how many deaths occurred in the US due to avian flu?
2 million..?
No. Zero.

Do you know how many deaths avian flu caused in the years 2003-2009?
7.4 million...?
No. 272.

Which equals 39 persons per year. It seems like a lot. Did you know that common flu kills half a million persons a year throughout the world? According to the National Safety Council, you had more chances of being struck by lightning than dieing from H5H1 flu. But it doesn't matter anymore. Today, nobody talks about avian flu anymore.

Today, people are panicking from the new outbreak. Swine flu.

According to the World health organization up until 6/30/09 AH1N1 flu caused 382 deaths throughout the world. Let's analyze other diseases.

In the present 2 million people die from malaria each year. Death that can be avoided by simply using Mosquito netting.

2 million children die from diarrhea. Death that can be avoided by taking a 25 cent oral saline solution.

10 million people die from curable deceases such as measles or pneumonia

How many of these deaths make headlines? None.

However, the constant bombarding of swine flu seems insatiable, But why?
By now it should be pretty obvious.

Remember that in 1996 pharmaceutical company Gilead science lead by Donald Rumsfeld patented Tamiflu as medication against several types of flues. Casually, Tamiflu is one of the two medications recommended by the world health organization against swine flu. And what a better way to commercialize this than by creating a necessity based on terror and paranoia?
By the way, did you know that Tamiflu has psychological and psychiatric secondary effects? The FDA investigated 600 cases of people treated with Tamiflu that showed neuro-psychological side effects. Most severe symptoms included covulsions and grave delusion. In Japan, 14 deaths in children and teenagers due to brain infections caused their government to prohibit tamiflu during the year 2007.
During the mass vaccination campaign of swine flu in the year 2009 in just 6 months, lawsuits from victims that suffered paralysis reached over 1.3 billion dollars. Justice blamed the vaccine for 25 deaths. Even healthy 20 year old persons ended up paraplegic.

Is it so hard to understand what is hiding behind the swine flu? Lets act actively but lets not lose our heads, let's not enter a state of paranoia. Let's take care of ourselves and take care of our family. Let's keep in mind the measures for prevention, but we also need to understand that the formula needs to change, because they are playing with us, they are negotiating with our health the health of our children.

From my understanding the swine flu isn't what kills you. It can cause you to develop pneumonia...which can kill you.

Starting Day 5, and the good news is I'm FINALLY getting some relief from the high temps. Earlier when the Ibuprofen would wear off my fever would instantly go back up to 103.8-104.2. It's now settling around 102.1-102.3 when the pills wear off.

My throat and esophagus feel as though they have Gonorrhea. If I'm bold enough to try to eat something, I can feel it hurting the entire way to my stomach. That's a new one for a flu symptom! Popsicles make it feel good....I've eaten almost a whole 18-pack of twin-pops in two days.

Breathing is slightly interrupted. I wouldn't go as far as to call it "shortness of breath", but if I take a deep breath I can feel a restriction that tries to make me cough....like taking deep breaths outside in very cold weather.

My doctor sort-of pissed me off and misled me on the Ibuprofen thing. She said "there's no problem with taking up to 800mg at once as long as you space it out in between doses. For instance, if you take 800mg which is twice the normal pain relieving dose, you'll want to wait 8 hours before taking another dose of 800mg." What the bi*** failed to tell me was that you can take 45 of these pills at once....they're STILL going to wear off in four hours. So if I take 800mg, I have four hours of feeling wonderful followed sharply by 4 hours of intense pain and 103.8 degree fevers while waiting until it's time for the next dose.

Lesson learned....take the recommended dose, and take it as often as allowed. I'll settle for mediocrity over bliss with intense pain.

I don't even know what to think of N1H1.. You guys have flu shots down in the states? We have them up here but I never get them.

I'm always skeptical of WHAT is in those flu shots?!?!?! I hate getting shot up with strange Chemicals that they whipped together hastily. I'll take my Chances with washing my hands and staying away from sick people.

Damn that sounds awful, I'm sorry you're going through that.

Ive been sick and thought I had the swine flu a few days ago. I got the body aches, really sore throat, cough, nausia but didn't get the fever. I haven't gotten the flu shot this year and probably won't. I just really worry about my 2 year old daughter getting it. I barely take her out lately.

Sorry bro, sounds rough, day 5 and still a fever above 100...wow. I hope you get well soon.

Have you not tried alternating Ibuprofen and tylenol?

They've been "hastily" whipping up flu shots for a while now. They're basically dead flu cells that are meant to help your immune system build a defense against that particular strain. The H1N1 vaccine is no different really. Some people think it was created too quickly and that short cuts were taken... truth is, it was created in about the same span of time the normal flu shots are created every year. Problem is, they haven't been able to mass produce it to keep up with the demand.

Some will always have their own reasons for not using vaccines. In the end, those people just end up putting themselves and others more at risk. And in regards to the conspiracy theories - I can't say I'd put it past some to benefit from this, but can we really worry about that right now? My first priority is to keep my family safe. I'm not going to give in to paranoia, but I'm going to make educated decisions on how to best do that. And after doing a lot of reading, the vaccine still seems the best course of action.

Tried it....Tylenol literally does NOTHING to lower my fever for some reason. Never has. Thank god Ibuprofen works well or I'd be S.O.L.

I have some vicoden from when I blew out my left knee. Hell I think I still have some from when I blew out my right knee thats about 8 years old..

My 15 year old cousin had swine flu and something else too, i already forgot. She stayed in the hospital for about a week. Shes fine now.

Haha Right...I'm not saying anyone is trying to poison us...I just dont like any chemicals or drugs...I'm the kind of person that wont even take asprin when I have a headache. And LOOK what happened....Tylonol had to remove all their aprin with acetaminophen cause it was messing up peoples livers or something.

I haven't had a flu shot in like 15 years...and I haven't had the flu in 15 years haha. Maybe I just have More immunity to it?!?!

Watch NOW im gonna die from H1N1 cause I said I never get the flu ROFLROFL
I better knock on wood.

we are starting to have more swine flu patients where I work, first in the ICUs then now more on the floor, I have worked with over 20 of them and I haven't been sick. There are no special isolation precautions for swine flu, meaning unlike TB that needs a negative pressure(air sucked out the wind and doesn't leave out the door) all you need is a regular mask like the regular flu and you are set.
