I am running an apexi n1 muffler with stock piping, and it sounds nice and deep. However how do they sound with a gutted cat , deeper? ricey?

I just recently had a friend in a turbo 2.3tl gut his cat and i think it sounds terrible, but you do get some decent gains from it. Another things you need to worry about is you probably have way more then 1 cat in your exhaust just gutting one won;t help much. Get rid of all of them and you will see some gains. Kepp in mind you won;t pass inspection. I would just go with a high flow cat or atleast have one handy.

I've got an apexi N1 catback, and a bomz hi flow cat (straight thru pipe) and it sounds really good, all my V8 buddies like it, go for it, you wont regret it :thumb:

A good friend of mine works for a muffler shop and he welded me up a section of 2.5 in pipe to put in place of my cat. it sounds like poop but if you want loud then go ahead but you lose that deep smooth N1 sound. As far as performance it showed no gains on the gtech. Also even though we heated up the bolts holding on the cat they both snaped due to rust. I would not recomend this mod. I have a video with good audio on my cousins server next time i see him i will get the link and post it.

Hmm One of you say It sounds nice , another says it sounds like poop?

I hear many people say a gutted cat is like8- 10 HP?

Hey DSMtuner post that link since I think I'm leaning towards your standpoint. I paid $200 for the damn canister for that deep sound and I dont want to make it sound like every other damn fart cannon.:barf:

Wouldnt gutting the cat or running a straight pipe reduce your back pressure? I thought you needed some back pressure..???
