I am currently building my first DSM (98 Eclipse GSX) and was building the motor to be able to handle 800whp since these engines are amazing. However I've run into the issue I've learned is common that this transmission isn't very good at handling power.

I was looking into a dogbox only to learn you have to rebuild them every 5-8k miles which I really don't want to do.

Is there anywhere that can build me an awd tranny that works with this platform, or possibly any upgraded Evo parts i can try to maybe get 600-800whp?

evo id only different ratio, from what i remember the evo are weaker. just send your trans to TRE and have them build it with the works. or go auto/dogbox. those are our options

if i send it to TRE how much tq would the tranny be able to handle after?

so its all about torque and how you drive it and use it, hard launches, no lift to shift, having boost hit hard etc all can cause the gears to break. i have a tre spec trans with a boostin billet bearing housing and im running 10s in the 1/4 trapping 130mph+

When you use OEM gears there is zero guarantee they will hold any HP rating, plain and simple. You can do higher gear preloads and treatments to help extend the life but there is no set number. At 600+ whp it will be perfectly fine one day and the next at the very same power level the material will either reach its fatigue point or you'll have a tiny bit of wheel hop and it's all over.

As said, it's either dogbox or auto at high power levels and deal with the added maintenance. There's no set schedule on a dogbox either, if you drive it a lot, eventually you will round over the dogs or the teeth on the engagement rings, it is what it is.

Sadly right now its dog box or auto. The rest of options still have the stock gears limitations. I killed many stock trans over the years. The one in my car right now does not even have a welded center diff and somehow has held on at around 600whp for a few years but i barely drive it and i have timing pulled in areas to keep the tq hit softer. I have a buddy right now pulling out his TRE stage 4 i think? evo gears double syncro ect to put in a TRE built dog box as his car makes well north of 650 and he knew the previous trans was always a risk.
