so i'm looking a purchasing a fmic this summer. the one i'm looking at is the greddy 2g big fmic, the one with the 24R core. i plan on getting an evo III 16g turbo, bov, mbc, guages and all that jazz to go along with it. along with porting out the turbo and possilbly the exhaust manifold to combat boost creep. but my first question is, is this ic too big for the turbo i plan on purchasing and would an oversized ic have a negative affect on performance or would it just cost more? if it is too big, what alternate ic would you recommend? the other question comes when and if i actually mount it on my car. would you really want the uicp to be routed in front of the ic? seems like that would reduce the cooling capablity of the top 3 or so inches. here's the pic in question.

seems kinda goofy to mount the upic like that but i've never had anything but the stock smic so i might be way out in right field here but i thought i'd check it out to be sure.

thanks for your input, darren

thanks, darren

To answer your question, no its not to big for the evo turbo, but you will notice a lag, casue the ic piping is so long, i would recommed sbr short route or ebay. I have the evo turbo. i had the greddy and just switched to sbr and i felt a huge difference.

thanks for the info, if i understand you right your talking about the slowboy racing ic pictured below. looks to me like this is the same core with just different end tanks to make it more functional.

Well unless your getting a great deal on a used greddy ic, they would be about the last ic setup I would recommend. The core is tube & fin which isn't as efficient as bar & plate & it is also a rather fragile core. The pipeing is only 2.25" where alot are 2.5" & is extra long route, actually adds more length compared to stock. Add to that Greddy has about the worst customer service possible & thats why this isn't a setup I would recommend. Depending on your budget I'd recommend the victory performance setup first (cost ~$1000), SBR one you have pictured is also a very good setup. If you looking for something a little cheeper, find the ebay fmic thread on this forum. Seems to be a great setup for a much cheeper price. As far as cor size goes, no the greddy defently wouldnt be overkill for the evoIII.

I purchased the ebay fmic for the 2gs from ssautochrome.I was a little skeptical at first because ssautochrome stuff sucks, but this fmic seems to be working very well for me so far im very pleased with it.

thanks everyone for the input, especially daren_p. i had read about the two types of ic's but didn't know that the difference in performance between the two was so great. i spent all of last summer doing the maintence that was should be done before tuning and this summer i plan on actually putting some parts on. i would like to put all the components i listed in my first post in all in one shot and it'll be a pretty good amount of cash right there so i'm trying to save money where i can. i think i my best bet is to go with the ssautochrome fmic, seems like the people that have it are satisified. or just find a decent bar and plate core and fab the ic piping, a friend of mine is a welder and he could hook me up with the welds and i'm sure he knows where to get the piping from too.

thanks again for your input! saved me alot of money and headaches. darren
