Greddy Sidemount?

Extreme claims their sidemount is actually over 6" thick (vs. about 3.5" thick for the above sidemount). Is this really true? Has anyone seen a recent Extreme sidemount? That's quite a big difference.

i have an extreme smic, no its not 6" thick, it's over 6" in length (the core).

That looks alot like the Alamo Motorsports sidemount, which was also sold by Mach V and Extreme. I have the 1G version, which is 6" thick. 2G is thinner. Check the dimensions at Alamomotorsports.com

ill post pics in a little bit...
looks just like my supra smic. how can you say it's a "hellova lot better" than a supra smic? have u ever used a supra smic? they look to be pretty similar

To run 13s, clean your stock SMIC with gasoline, cut the plastic behind the intercooler in the wheel well and attack some mesh to prevent rock entry and you will acsertain your goals easily... If you really want to add an extra punk, remove the fog light in front of the IC and fabricate a custom air duct to increase flow.

heres my take on this. any cooling a side mount would do, race gas would do better. why waste $500-$600 on a side mount when the stock one with race gas will do the job just as well? if you can find a supra IC for $100 do it, but otherwise i wouldnt waste the money. front mounts only make your car run hot if theres another problem with your cooling system. ie; radiator blocked internally, water pump going, thermostat screwed up. front mounts are better period.

there's no need to say I made the wrong choice, I bought it for less than most people pay for a supra sidemount

Getting a front mount is obviously the better choice, but for my budget it just doesn't fit in

Get rid of your A/C condensor. That blocks the radiator straight from the factory.

A decently designed core will be flowing through enough for cooling the radiator.

Update:
I bought an extreme sidemount. But it ended up being for a 1g... anyways, it is 6" thick... Fvcking huge for a sidemount. It's for sale on the scrivit.com auctions. I am now back in the search for a front mount or a sidemount that fits.

Just go with the FMIC. I saw your post about the 50 trim and if you really want to go that route you should just go Frount mount. YES, you could us the smic but why when for a little more you can get a fmic. The biggest sidemount won't out flow a fmic because you are still restricted to the whole that draws in the air (ofcourse you coiuld hack the shit out of your front bumper)

Just curious.
So you got an Extreme sidemount and it really was 6" THICK (as in deep, not tall or wide)? Did you just get the wrong one or buy it secondhand or does Extreme not sell a large 2G sidemount?

BTW, I ask because I see so much conflicting info. For instance, someone stated above that the AMS 1g sidemount is 6" thick, but their 2g is thinner. I pulled up alamomotorsports.com and it says:
"Intercooler Upgrade, Series Two, DSM 95-99 Side Mount. Dimensions are : 8" x 8" x 6", with 2.5" Inlet/Outlet."
and
"Intercooler Upgrade, DSM 89-94 Side Mount
Dimensions are : 6" x 9" x 3" with 2" Inlet/Outlet"

Meanwhile, Extreme says (about their 2G unit):
"It's over 6" thick for lower pressure drops and less heat soaking."

And doesn't list a 1G sidemount at all.

The Spearco sidemounts that Dejon tool sells are 8.3Wide x 9.3High x 3.5"Thk (core) for both 1G and 2G.

Thicker should mean more heat capacity, so if the Extreme 2G sidemount is really 6" thick, it may be the best (new) large sidemount for the money since AMS wants $720 for theirs and Extreme's is $599.

Not sure of the full dimensions though. Going by the above, the external core volume (not internal air volume) of the AMS 2g sidemount should be 384" vs. 270" for the Spearco ~40% more and the Extreme should be of similar size if it was correctly described.
