i have heard tons of people using wheel bearing grease to seal up high temp pipes and fittings vice a gasket. has anyone else other than the three i have seen use this also? cheap way for me to do gaskets instead of buying them, if they work good that is. i was thinking between turbo and mani, o2 housing and hotside, and reusing the o2 to dp gasket, looks fine.

The mating surfaces have to be absolutely true. If you're not sure, take it to a machine shop to get it cut. You need to use a very thin layer. I personally use solid copper gaskets, and/or embossed SS gaskets.

does ffwd have all kinds of copper gaskets? i dont see any o2 housing gaskets from them...

I've never heard of this in my life. How is it working for the people you know? I think it's best to go with the metal gaskets like was said earlier. They may cost a little more, but you know they work and are reusable so you won't have to buy new ones for a long time. That's just my 2 cents.

yeah i ordered the copper setup from them, and chromoly 12pt turbo bolts from them, 43 bucks and all was said and done. just have to have time to put it all back together, and remember which bolts went where. its been about 5 wks since i tore it all down, but shouldnt be a big deal. now only if i had time to do this...supposed to be getting underway unexpectedly here sometime next week...sucks!!

I make sure there true using a belt sander and no gaskets just high temp copper silicone

Got to love those random underways. I remember when I was part of hurex (rapid hurricane response) stuff sucked. Hope you can get your car back together in time though, I know how much it sucks.

yeah, me too. va beach! its nice, clean, and prude there! i liked that place to visit, not to live. anyways, hope it goes back together well..might be able to work on it tonight, get it running! oh, and there is a thread somewhere, and heat resistant sucks on the silicone...the wheel bearing grease made the best seal out of the silicone, spray on copper gasket, and wheel bearing grease.
